Default wow...finally HEAR the difference

so ive been using the ps3 for blu ray, with a H/K 745 and always thought the audio was that of dvd quality, lacking, no bass, ect...up until tonight.

Up until tonight while watching face/off i have always seen dolby 5.1 and wasnt really impressed with the sound...until i realised i could change audio tracks...uncompressed audio is astounding!!!

I know this is a "newbie" post but my god...after witnessing linear pcm tracks on face/off, i put in other blu-rays that i thought were lacking...after changing audio on titles such as the rock and con air, even potc the difference is night and day.

Chalk this up to being dumb.
Uncompressed audio is incredible!!!

change audio settings on the blu ray movie you are watching...i guess for some reason default is regular audio...i had to change it to the "uncompressed" option

First you need to have an HDMI cable going from your PS3 to your reciever, if it has an input(example: Onkyo 605, etc....). Then from your reciever to your tv. From there it's just assigning the input on your reciever. Now once in the XMB on the PS3, choose audio settings. Go to the Blu Ray audio, you can select auto and it will optimize it for you or pick Linear PCM. Linear PCM is the only way to get uncompressed audio through the PS3, as it can't do Bitstream audio. Okay, now what are you using as your PS3 Blu Ray remote? Is it the controller? Press start to bring up the menu and you can choose it there from the pop up menu. I suggest getting the PS3 Blu Ray remote as this simplifies everything. Hope this helps.

You CAN listen to uncompressed PCM using Optical but you'll only get 2.0 channels. IF your receiver has Dolby ProLogic II, you can matrix that 2.0 signal into 5.1 but it's not the same as the full 5.1 uncompressed PCM.

Best bet is to get a new receiver that can accept 5.1 PCM and 1080p24 input.
