Default Flight To Mars (1951) - Film Detective

Release date: July 20

Quote:
Will this be man's greatest expedition? Or will it be man's doom?

From legendary producer Walter Mirisch comes Flight to Mars, a stirring adventure from the dawn of the 1950s science fiction boom. Starring Marguerite Chapman and Cameron Mitchell, filmed in gorgeous Cinecolor with costumes that are out of this world, Flight to Mars emerged from tiny Monogram Pictures like a rocket. Despite coming from one of Hollywood's smallest Poverty Row studios, it was praised in its time as "convincingly told and absorbing." (The Los Angeles Times)

Five Earthlings land on Mars and are greeted by a team of friendly inhabitants. In time, the Earthlings learn that the genial welcoming party secretly covets their ship. Fearing they have depleted the key mineral used to power their life-support systems, the Martians are determined to get off their dying planet by any means necessary. Not only do the Martians intend to leave the stranded crew behind to die, but they also plan to invade and conquer Earth. The discovery of this sinister alien agenda kicks off a long round of deception and suspense. Can the space travelers outsmart these diabolical Martians? All seems lost until a female Martian scientist offers to help. Suddenly the group from Earth has a fighting chance!

Cool! This is another Wade Williams one, if I'm not mistaken. Fingers crossed that Invaders from Mars, another Cinecolor (ahem SUPERcinecolor) film, isn't far behind!

Love "Flight to Mars". It's got a kind of cosmic coziness that I love to dive into.
And the Cinecolor's magical. Hope that "Rocketship X-M" is soon to follow.

The restoration was done by Paramount as they hold some international rights.

I'm surprised this thread hasn't gotten more attention. A Cinecolor space adventure from Monogram (one which I would've thought lots of older fans would remember fondly) making the leap to Blu-ray. That's headline news for me.
Eagerly looking forward to its July release.

I hope they release the original USA version and the original UK version separately. If Wade wants his mash up of the 2 versions on there, I don't mind as long as the originals aren't tampered with.

Again for Rocketship XM, I hope they release the original version. If Wade insists on his version with new special effects, I won't mind as long as the original is there.

I hope this is the start of finally releasing the rest of SciFi classics from the 50's that have not been available on Blu-Ray.

Still waiting for

I also hope we get a new edition of Forbidden Planet preferably in 4K but I would settle for a remastered BD release with some commentary and documentaries.

I scratchbuilt a model of the ship from this movie. It'a about 18" tall. Looking forward to the BD. The DVD is pretty rough.

Would love these as well, especially Invaders from Mars and Kronos.

..i think Film Detective's release of the Vincent Price movie The Bat was a BD-R , not a genuine pressed disc...would that be the case for Flight from Mars ?..

Probably not. Their recent releases have been pressed discs, beginning with EEGAH and GIANT FROM THE UNKNOWN. They have upped their game.

Crispy Noodle,

Your absolutely correct about "Journey to the Seventh Planet" already being available on Blu-Ray. Brain Fart by me. Ha!

So we can take that off the list but I forgot one which is an excellent SciFi movie "The Crawling Eye"

A lot of you have already written what I was going to regarding this release...and possible future releases. I’m always happy to see others who enjoy the same fare as I do.

The main reason I’m posting is to congratulate Dex Robinson for the stunning spaceship recreation. Bravo!

So, bring on Flight to Mars...and all those other wonderful 50s Sci-Fi titles! And thank you, everyone, for your enthusiasm!
