Question Face/Off for Blu-ray, question

Is it region free? Because I see one on ebay from Australia which is region B and it says it will only play on region B players...but I thought I heard it was region free

can anyone clarify this for me?

thanks

I'm not sure about the Australian version if there is such a thing, but the Japanese version and the UK version are region free. Might be cheaper to import from the UK though.

Region free means you can play it on any BDP. I haven't seen it myself, but I've heard and read more good thing than bad about this one.

Get the Japanese version. It's uncut (unfortunately, the UK version is cut) and there is no Noise Reduction applied (like the American version by Paramount).

How did you score that? Usually the movie itself is at least $30, and then there is shipping.

Yeah, I guess I didn't think of getting a used copy, but I just checked Amazon.co.uk and there are a couple of them on sale for around £12.

Only two imports I would consider are Days of Glory and Transformers 1986....actually, scratch the latter, that would be a splurge buy and completely unnecessary - but I have to get my hands on Days of Glory...Damn 2x conversion from Pounds to Dollars.

How about the upcoming Planet Terror (German version) and the already released 1408 (Dutch version)?

I forgot about 1408. And that in turn made me think of Children of Men.

*&(#%^&*%

I thought I was done with buying Blu's. I forgot about the import titles.

That's right. Must have slipped you mind.

By the way, I also want to get the UK release of Next. I actually liked that movie too.

I have both versions of Face/Off and I can boldly comment that the Blu-ray version looks and sounds better than the HD DVD due to the following reasons

1) The HD DVD version has excessive DNR slapped removing the fine grain which is properly retained in the Blu-ray version

2) The Blu-ray has 16-bit LPCM while the HD DVD has DD+ and DTS tracks. The LFE effects sounds more smooth and dynamic with the LPCM than with the DD+/DTS tracks.

Both versions are REGION FREE. It's better to avoid the U.K version as the KNIFE scene is said to be CUT. You can grab it from www.mediadis.com in the currently running B2GOF Blu-ray sale.

However the Blu-ray version is just bare bones as it doesn't have the ship load of 1080p extras that comes with the HD DVD version.

disagree. i have both. i think the hd dvd is better visually. i also owned the dvd, and i have to say a lot of the grain in teh blu ray is not there even in the dvd. however, teh AUDIO on the hd dvd is terrrible in comparison to the blu. so pick your poison. also, as you pointed out, the extras are much better on the hd dvd. one of the few hd dvds that i was actually pleased with. i would honestly wait on importing this amazing movie til paramount comes back to blu.

Children of Men at http://www.axelmusic.dk/index_fab.php

Face/Off at www.yesasia.com

I purchased both at those websites and had no problems. On axelmusic, Click on the unionjack on the righthand top side for english.

I purchased my copy from yesasia.com - no problems with the payment or delivery. the UK version does not include the full length version of the butterfly knife scene.
