Question Who will be the last holding the dead cat?

Last month we asked the question; who will be the last studio left holding the dead cat known as HD-DVD. We'd like to see what your answers are now that a few weeks have passed.

Thanks!

Universal seems to have issues with Sony. Paramount just follows the money. Result: Universal is left holding the dead cat.

GE owns Universal and NBC. Microsoft has contracts with NBC (MSNBC) and other contracts with GE. If Universal abandons HD-DVD, many will interpret it as an approval by Microsoft.

Paramount, however, was offered money by Microsoft/Toshiba to abandon Blu Ray and may have escape clauses in their contract. I believe Paramount is waiting for Universal to make a move.

Appearance and public relations are very important for these four companies. Microsoft has had a lot of legal battles with competitors, the U.S. government, and the European Union. Recently, they made an offer for Yahoo and need the approval of the public as well as both government bodies. Some of you may remember that Toshiba got into serious trouble in the 1980s for selling submarine technology to the Soviet Union during the Reagan Administration. I don't believe they want to repeat the public relation mistakes of the past.

My guess is that the four companies will make a decision together to avoid embarrassment for any inividual company.

Most definitely Universal. They started out with being HD DuD exclusive and they will go down with this sinking ship!
I hope they invest some time and money already to re-encode in blu though... hahah!

I remember the old thread, I picked Paramount before and I stick with it. I think Universal only releasing 2 titles as of right now this year says a lot. I still think they will switch first, but both will switch the same day. Universal will announce first and then Paramount shortly after completely ending this format war.

I believe that Paramount will either opt out of their contract or simply go back to blu after it expires.

I just want to see The "U" be last just so we could laugh at them for being the first HD DVD exclusive studio and the last and only one to hold the dead cat. Shame on you "U", you've left so many people (the blu majority of HD disc owners) with none of your great movies (I know many people here want to watch Serenity on BD). Even Spielberg won't let his movies get pressed on the inferior HD disc. "U", will you just do the right thing please and drop HD DVD already.

Universal obviously. Universal have been HDDVD all along, and in my opinion deserve credit for having integrity and sticking with their initial commitment. And there is no shame in them sticking with their HD DVD exclusive stance. Just as there would have been no shame in Fox or Sony being Blu Ray exclusive if Blu Ray had lost.

Paramount are just selling themselves for money. When they went HD exclusive, they knew they were going to loose HD sales. The took money from Toshiba to cover the sales loss. They don't seem to have much in the way of integrity.

Universal will, because they have been HD-DVD's life support the entire time. Also, they're the only studio that hasn't printed a Blu-ray yet, so they'd have to figure out how to do that too.
