Another thread got me thinking about this. What weird things does your cat do?
Mine: 1. Sleeps on the subwoofer while the thing is going crazy(movies/games) 2. Sits and stares at me from a distance for hours or sits outside our door just staring at it for what must be all night. Brings me to 3.. 3. Bites peoples chins to wake them up so they will pet her. 4. My favorite.. If you let her she loves to act like a parrot and sit on your shoulder while you go about your business. This includes walking around, bending over, sitting down...Just loves being on your shoulder. |

![]() ![]() What wonderful cat you've got! I really love cats with weird personality traits, man I envy you. Had a cat last year, but had to give it away, my gf has allergies, too bad, we loved him so. Caesar used to sleep right in front of me, right where the keyboard should have been on my computer desk (the tray that "pops" out). Playing games and making music became the ultimate quality time for me. One of the weird things it did was he stared at a specific place at the wall/ceiling for 15 min. or so. He did it several times, it was freaking eerie when it got dark at night ![]() It also breathed like a dog when he was out of breath ![]() With the tongue out and that characteristic breathing sound. He was also incredibly stupid... ![]() |

My cat isn't one of those "unique" personality cats (too bad, cuz those are so much fun) but he does have some weird habits. He absolutely loves ice water, so if anyone has a glass when watching TV, we have to keep our eye on it because he'll sneak up and drink your ice water. He steals my water all the time! Another thing is that he hates fleece, he won't go near it. He loves curling up in my lap when watching TV, but if I have a fleece blanket over me, he won't come near it. One time I tried to lower him onto one and he flipped out and did one of those in-the-air, sideways ninja jumps and got away for the terrible blanket. Crazy cat |

Mine drinks from the bathroom faucet too. Everytime we go in the bathroom she jumps on the vanity and demands the water be turned on. Spazz is very vocal too. We have deep conversations. She says meow... then I say meow... and she says meow.... and it goes on for as long as I will talk to her. I don't know what we are discussing... but she takes it very seriously. My other cat can't meow. It comes out as some sort of defective meow that I can't even describe.

My sister had a cat that was like that, he would open his mouth to meow and nothing would come out, then the meow that followed was like a swallowed garbled sound. SO strange. |

Yeah my cat demands to have his bathroom faucet turned on as well. Every time I walk by. And if I'm out somewhere else in the house, he likes to come get me and lead me into the bathroom, meowing to me the whole way. He stops every 10 or so feet and turns around to make sure I'm coming, then continues trotting towards the sink lol

Other odd traits: - my cat 'cleans' the floor, in that it paws at rubble on the ground and pushes it all to one corner. - unless I look my cat up it manages to push open closed doors so as she can fall asleep on top of me. - when she lays on top of me she either curls up in a bowl on my back when i'm sleeping on my stomach or back, or if i'm laying on my side streches out on top of me (fully streched arms up legs down). - if you meow at her she meows back without fail (given that she's present and not asleep) - my cat can't pur, instead she seems to simply vibrate (I didn't have her as a kitten and think whoever the prior owner was mistreat her, she is also generally very wary of strangers and generally simply runs away from everyone but me [which is infact how I ended up with her, she was one of my housemates cats but refused to have anything to do with her 'owner' yet followed me around everywhere]). I think the ultimate weird (and amusing) moment was after fallen asleep during what was a one night stand, she started hissing at the girl and scratched her (I moved the girl to the sofa in another room as 'my' [I hate saying mine, as I don't fell I own my cat] cat really didn't like the person). I don't believe so. But a friends boyfriend is allergic, however she does intend on getting a cat of a particular breed (she was very specific but I was only half listening) that should not be an issue for those who are allergic (I can't remember the name of the breed, and not sure how correct the statement was, but I guess if you like cats it may be worth looking into). My cat is 13 now and has completely mellowed out for the obvious reason of age, but he's also epileptic. When he gets too wound up he'll have a siezure. The result is heartbreaking so I won't dwell on that.
So on the odd or habit side there are a few things. First of all, he was clearly weened to young, as he still do this day, uses his paws in a kneading motion on my legs, stomach, my wife, blankets, pretty much everywhere when he's ready to relax. This is in an attempt to stimulate the mammary glands, IF HE WAS A KITTEN! He's very friendly but won't respond to his name because he thinks he's too good for that. So a couple of finger snaps is what he's decided his name is. He loves to drink hot water out of the bath tub so when It's bath night for the kids, we usually end up with a bit of wet cat. No matter where he is sitting or laying down in the great room, when you do snap your fingers, he will come over looking for some scratching, however he always takes the exact same route. He has to go the long way around the coffee table even if that extends his walk 10 fold. It's actually quite funny. He purr's like a machine and I guess because he is fairly large, his purr is just that. Easily wakes us up at night. We used to lock him down stairs at bedtime because of how loud he was and because he purpetually chews on long hair that has hair spray or mousse on it. My wife had a terrible time trying to sleep. As for him wanting attention, he's as pushy as they come and does the nose nudge. He pushes and pushes and if you don't give in, he mixes in a bit of lick. Just a subtle little flick of the tongue but it's enough to break any sane human. I could actually go on and on cuz he's been in our family from the second month I left home, but this post is already long enough. When he goes, I'm going to ball. ![]() Last edited by Grumpz; 10-23-2009 at 02:48 PM. |

We have two cats. The older one is 13 years, and he's the psycho one. When he was younger, he would attack when someone is not feeling well. We've even had to get stitches from attacks that he would make. My wife was sleeping on the couch one day, with a bad cold, and he bit her ear so hard, she had to get stitches. I tried to put him in a cat kennel, and he tore up my arm so bad, I had to get stitches in my arm. But when he's cuddly, he's extremely cuddly. As I'm typing this, he's laying beside me, curled up and purring so loudly, that you just can't stay mad at him.
![]() The other one, is smaller, and absolutely fits the description of "fraidy cat". For the first year we had him, he didn't trust me at all. He would cuddle and let my wife and daughter near him, but if I came near him, his ears would go back, his eyes would get wide, and he'd run away. He still runs from me, but not as often anymore. So I'm slowly getting on his good side. Both of them, though, pull and push on the bottom of closed doors, so when we go to bed, they go in the basement. If we let them stay upstairs, they would pull on the door so much we wouldn't be able to sleep. As for allergies, my wife is allergic to cats. She takes a couple sprays of Nasonex every night, and that helps out with her allergies. She couldn't get rid of our cats at all. She would rather suffer with her allergies. Talk to your doctor. I know we have a friend who's allergic, and she takes some sort of allergy pill before she comes over to our house, and that stops her allergy attacks as well. There is something that should work. |

![]() ![]() I've also read about allergy-free cats that cost around 10000 $ (or so) and they're not able to produce spawns... yikes. |
