If your receiver accepts HDMI you should just go HDMI video and audio to your receiver and than out of the reciever to your tv.

No splitter needed, no signal degredation.

I see. I'm not familiar with any HDMI splitters, but maybe save for a 2$ Radio Shack splitter you should not worry about signal degredation.

Of the 37 useres who bought it most of them didn't seem to be too pleased with it. You might want to look around a little. It doesn't have to be a Gefen for 500$, but I would stay away from a splitter that costs less than most HDMI cables.

Digital is NOT equal digital. There are lots of factors that come into play for a true 1010 --> 1010

Most problems with cheap cables (or splitters for that matter) are dropouts. I have a very cheap HDMI cable that was attached to my PS3. I had dropouts all the time. It's been replaced with a nice cable (not 'Monster expensive' mind you) and dropouts are a thing of the past.

Video/Sound degredation is different than dropouts.

Works fine for video 1 source - 2 displays, but mine does not pass the audio portion of the signal, which works normally if I take this splitter out of the equation. Bummer.

Will not pass audio signal from DirecTV HD receiver. With 1 or 2 televisions hooked to splitter no audio singal was passed. Video looked great on Samsung 1080p 40 inch and Insignia 19 HD Lcd. If you are only looking for video works great. Will be returning splitter.

Just some reviews for the Monoprice switcher.

Well that sucks. Looks like they need to make players with 2 hdmi outs.

HDMI splitters don't work well with SACD outputs in my experience. I COULD BE WRONG since it's been a while since I've tried splitting signals across many displays and one receiver.

However, a 2x HDMI split should be fine. If you can get a powered one where the splitter needs a DC power to split the signal, that is even better. Of course, this is all temp solution until you decide to get a receiver that accepts 1080p24, TrueHD and DTS HDMA signals.

For me dropouts is as big a video degredation as anything

Even though a good idea, I doubt it will happen. Most people use an AVR for home cinema (as does the OP, the only problem is the 1080i limitation) and every AVR has multiple outputs. It would only raise the cost of the player for something that 99% of the users don't need.

No signal degredation, because you likely won't get a signal AT ALL!!!

The PS3 enforces HDCP, which shouldn't work at all with a splitter of this type. Connected to just one device, it will handshake fine and send a signal. As soon as you plug the second device into the splitter, though, you're screwed. Sorry. This kind of splitter is only useful for source devices that don't enforce HDCP.

To do what you want, you'd need to spend A LOT more money on a proper splitter that works as an HDCP repeater such as the Gefen: http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=2514 or the DVI Gear: http://www2.dvigear.com/sphd1x2.html . (Edit: Monoprice actually makes one that "should" work for a better price: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 )

Honestly, you're better off waiting till you can get a new receiver.

I use this one, and the only device I couldnt get to work properly was my Oppo DVD Player (it would send the video but not audio). I have my Star Choice HD DVR, PS3, Computer, and HD-A2 hooked up to it with no problems so far. The price is pretty decent as well compared to the geffen stuff.

I use a monoprice 4x2 switcher/splitter with my PS3 and every input/output on the 4x2 is being used, and it works fine with no problems.
