I have a Sony BDP-S300 player that I got last year. When I was looking into upgrading to Blu-Ray I read how much better my DVD's would look with it. I bought a 50'' Samsung 1080p television and the Blu-Ray player. My question is, why don't I see a noticable difference in the quality of my DVD's? I really don't see a difference at all. Is there something I'm not doing. My Blu-Ray's look amazing, but my DVD's look the same.

Im not familiar with your particular player, but check your settings to make sure upconversion is on. Also, make sure you are using anamporphic DVDs. It should say so on the back of the case near the bottom.

I wouldnt dwell too much on it. Upconversion is more of an optical illusion rather than trully taking 480p material and turning it into 1080p.
in other words...the 480p you will find from a dvd will always be 480p...upconverision simply adds information not really there in the first place. |

![]() Srsly, upconverted/upscaled SD DVD on the PS3 are only a hair better than unconverted/upscaled SD DVD. Not even close to watching material that was meant to be 1080p. |

Upconverted dvds just don't look like real HD material on displays bigger than 32". The only people who were spreading that fiction were HD DVD supporters who wanted to push HD DVD players as upconverters. Compare any BD and its equivalent dvd and the BD will win hands down every single time, even poor BDs like Total Recall. Upconverted dvds do look marginally better than dvds shown at 480P.
