Default Anyone else had this problem? PLEASE HELP!

I work at Futureshop and recently picked up the Sony BWU-100A for $250. I installed it in my computer (which is plugged into my HDTV) and watched Apcolypto no problem. I bought four brothers and it runs beautifully. Then I picked up the Live Nine Inch Nails disc and it was so jumpy it was unwatchable. I noticed that my CPU was running at around 90%. Looking online I saw that certain formats of video require better CPU's. Nine Inch Nails is in VC-1 while the others were both MPEG. Has anyone else noticed this problem? I don't wanna spend $250 on a new processor if it's not gonna help out.

Thanks!!

I think that the Nine Inch Nails BD is 1080i (as so with the other music video BD's), try changing the settings to 720p or 1080i.

The Nine Inch Nails site says it is in 1080p, but I found that it displays in 1080i as well. Odd . . .

My Computer is just connected to my TV thru VGA so it's not coming thru 1080P anyways cuz it's only analog... My TV is shit and HDMI on it looks HORRIBLE! So until I get a better TV I'm just leaving it VGA.

I've watched Apcolypto, Four Brothers, and Bridge To Terabithia all without any problems. They only one that doesn't work for me is Nine Inch Nails, according to this site. the 3 that worked are all MPEG and NIN is vc-1. Is it possible that my Processor just can't handle vc-1?

All HD video whether Blu-ray or HD DVD, are encoded at 1080p. All standalone players can tellicine 1080@24 (1080p) to 1080@60(1080i) for use with HDTVs that don't support 1080p. Or all HDTVs under 37".

PCs do not output 1080i or any interlaced output when using VGA or DVI. When you watch a video outputted by a PC it scales the video to the resolution of your desktop. Basically if your Desktop is 1024x768 the video is scalled accordingly. The only exception would be PCs equipped with a special video card such as ATI's All in Wonder series. These cards have component out, newer ones may even have HDMI. This is the ONLY way for PC to display interlaced output. Basically if your using VGA which is the most common, or DVI, you can't have 1080i.

If the computer processor is only at 90% then the proceesor still has some juice, basically processor is not 100%, thus it's not straining. The reason for chopy video is probably another bottleneck. Check ram, 2GB is required for smooth playback. Then also check if the best codecs installed. Community Codec Pack is the best way to play practically anything. However this codec seems to work beter with Windows Media Player classic, which also comes with the pack. It's a very small yet powerfull player it takes far less CPU power than it's WMP 11 succesor.

Thanks for the feedback.

It does hit 100% some times. But once again it's ONLY with Nine Inch Nails. I've run 3 or 4 other movies and they all work no problems.

Now to make things more complicated. I ripped the Nine Inch Nails video to my harddrive and it runs no problem.

Does it sound like a Processor problem to you guys? Cuz I don't wanna dump 230$ down on a new processor for it to not solve my problem...

thanks!

How much RAM do you have?
And what video card do you have?
And while we're at it, what processor?

Oh yeah. Does Windows Media Player Classic run Blu-Rays? I Didn't know that.

As far as RAM is concerned. My friend has a blu-ray player and is running a gig of ram (same as me) and it works fine for him. So I don't think my gig of ram is the problem. Cuz my ram isn't being heavily used..like my CPU is.

I just don't see why I would need more than one gig of ram. I could upgrade that and probably would while I'm ordering a new sound card (for surround out) and CPU from ncix.com lol.

my video card is ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO 256MB PCI-Express Video Card

1080@30hz is 1080i
1080@60hz is 1080p

"Check ram, 2GB is required for smooth playback."

Uhm... BS!
This laptop plays back excellent with 1GB of PC2-4200 RAM.

Make sure you are using the latest ATI drivers and the latest version of PowerDVD. That combo should offload most of the video processing to the video card, and you should very rarely hit anywhere near 90% processor use while watching a film. If you are using both of those, make sure you have all the video acceleration options set in PowerDVD.

You shouldn't need a new processor or more memory as long as you are using the right software and have the video processing offloaded. AFAIK, only PowerDVD is currently able to offload video processing for VC-1 and AVC content on ATI HD 2400 cards.

I'm using powerdvd and as far as i know it's the newest version.
I have the latest drivers for my video card as it is a fairly new card.
It's only nine inch nails that is choppy. and like I said, when i copied it to my harddrive I had no problems watching it..

You say there are settings in powerdvd that should fix it?

Vista Alone hogs a gig...I had to upgrade to 2 and I don't even have a blu-ray drive on it yet....i also heard you need Vista 64 bit to support HD playback...
