Default Samsung lawsuit over insufficient firmware support

http://blog.wired.com/business/2008/...g-sued-ov.html

I don't have a Samsung player, but I thought I would share this.

One thing that Cnet article had "right" was that while I personally don't have any issues with doing firmware updates, it certainly isn't something the masses will find easy to deal with. And when the vendor won't supply them or can't because of the hardware itself, that really muddies the waters.

Was only a matter of time. At least they just released their firmware to augment on their non-BD playing players.

we had major problems with a samsung dvd player in the past. had it replaced like 4 times before we finally gave up. After that we decided to steer away from samsung, as their customer support was horrible

Yeah, I'm definitely not buying a Samsung Blu-ray player anytime soon... I like their TVs though.

I bought the Samsung BD 1400 in December, and I have been able to watch all of my BD movies. However, The customer service stories I have read are scary. Owners of the 1200 have been neglected. Can't say I am sorry to see this. I am for the rights of the consumer!

Again all hails to Mystik. I been saying for months that Samsung was an embarrassment to the BDA and that all of you should avoid buying them.

I guess I was on the spot again!

how can you sue for that though? some products are just out of date now because the technology is evolving. Isn't it the consumers fault if they buy a player without researching its capabilities?

If that's the case, they should put on the box "Blu-Ray Player (May only work with some Blu-Rays that came out before or shortly after the player was released)"
