The first MGM film in Cinemascope (2.55:1). The original magnetic 4-track stereo did not survive. It is presented in 2-track stereo, so it should unfold in Dolby Pro Logic according to George Feltenstein.

I'm getting this and the Dirty Work Special Edition on day one, they're both some of my favorite movies of all time.

I'd still try to cancel the preorder. If it's "too late," no harm done. Either way, a copy should be sent to you within one day. |

It's truly gorgeous. The picture from the old DVD showed many signs of damage but there's hardly any visible here. Colours are beautiful, definition is excellent overall, and superb in exterior shots. The very dodgy blue screen effects still look dodgy, of course, however I was worried they would look far worse than on the DVD due to the increased resolution but that's not the case at all. I wish Warner had been able to realign those composite shots but that's not a big deal - at the end of the day, that's how it looked at the cinema. Definition suffers during the many optical transitions, of course, but again that's part of the film. This is a beautiful transfer that makes me very happy after two decades watching the decent-but-flawed DVD picture.

Yes, reportedly the DVD was sourced from 4th generation elements whereas this is a new 4K scan off the OCN. It looks outstanding! I'm hoping to have a review up tomorrow with 25 screenshots.

On the title's page on Amazon it said it was "in stock", so why didn't they just ship it to me? Well, I had to go through Customer Service, and now, long story short, they say I will receive it in 48 hours. Something tells me I won't. ![]() |
