Default Maturity Level Here is Dropping...

Over the last month I have noticed that the maturity level here has dropped to an all time low.

We are supporters of the winning format in the war, we need to up the level of our posts, our tones, and what we decide to let go on this site.

I implore the moderators to brainstorm on these things and make a mental list of the people on this site who actively take part in bringing "something to the table" so to speak and a list of the ones who haven't added any insight to the discussion. There is so many useless messages being posted as of late that it is almost impossible to sift through for relevant information.

I understand that everyone is excited that the war is finally over, but, we need to turn it back up to at least a 25 year old level...about 10 years more than it seems to be at.

I am not just pointing the finger, I have made many posts of the typical...

"way to go, blu!!"

"yippee!"

but, I think that it has gotten much worse than that.

If you feel the need to post here telling me that I am lame, stupid, self-righteous, etc....go ahead. I can take it.

I just thought something needed to be stated.

You're lame and self righteous.... Just kidding

I agree that the maturity level has dropped... but Blu-ray is beginning to reach the mainstream and well... not to be harsh, but the masses are asses.

indeed it has. Lots of new members it seems. Or at least members that had not really posted much previously. I find the forums cluttered and not as much fun as it used to be. I think I spend less and less time here every day now

But to be fair this happens to tons of forums. Once the product, or the main subject of the forum becomes more mainstream and starts to reach the masses more and more it's going to start to degrade in quality.

As long as the mods keep on top of it (and since I've been here, they all have) it won't erode into a terrible place, but it won't be the A/V and Blu site it was when a limited number of people knew about the site.

There are going to be tons of multiple threads about the same topic (just look at this morning) and as more and more people join the site, there are going to be more and more people who don't read the stickies and thus ask questions that are going to aggravate people.

We are, trust me. But, you ever see a street celebration after a championship? You ever complain you can't get into a store when one of those are happening?

Things will calm down, and we will adapt to the new reality and be able to bring a total Blu-ray centered focus to this site. I think with the war over, the level of discourse will naturally improve.

I was getting the same way . . . but then I started trying to help the newbies out a little more and spending more time in off topic and I started to enjoy myself more. The occasional troll thread is pretty fun, too I get what you're saying though, there are a lot more combative people lately, reducing some of the enjoyment.

I agree on some level. Now do I think anything can be done about it, NO. It's just life man, the majority of our species are obnoxious cattle. Trying to change that will just reduce you to that level. If it bothers you, ignore it and "moo"ve on.

Edit: I think the biggest problem is that a natural reaction for most people is to get beligerant when someone else has a different opinion, I notice a lot of that on here lately.

Your observations are correct. The majority of Forum Members 'are' what is called the 'early adopters' and we do have, and often share our, passions for what we believe will provide the finest video and audio experience, and this is fine. What we must do now is to guide and show the way for the uninformed and the novice. We have indeed fought a tough fight, often bitterly, with down-right personal attacks. This 'must' stop! We will now have many of the early adopters from the HD DVD Forum coming over here, and hopefully embrace what we have so long believed, and conveyed here on our Forum.

Our interests and passions need to be channeled towards the studios to begin large volume releases of blockbuster movies to capture the attention of the new high definition consumer. The Blu-ray player prices are within the budget of the masses, but the price per movie is still quite high for the average consumer, and this require our attention and formitable pressure.

We have won the war and can be proud of our contributions to that successful outcome, our work however is not finished. So, enjoy the moment, but be prepared to encounter and deal with other technologies competing with Blu-ray Disc, like what China is considering doing, and other entities. Don't let your guard down, be vigilent !!! [Jim]

i half expected the people having the maturity problem to be littered in this thread haha. but thats good to hear, i hope things will change fast. i'm getting tired of threads filled with pictures and smilies that have nothing to do with the discussion at hand.

is there any chance of reporting said immature people and get them a week 'vacation' or something?

I agree that things are a little "different". But this is a public forum on the Internet--not a University Think Tank. I'm sure there's a ton of representation in every age, income and education level here, so it's not uncommon to see many posts that don't ring of Dostoevsky.

The bottom line is that the variety of posts and authors are what make this site great. Trust me--the worst thing that can happen to an online forum is where everyone's posts sound the same, and the moderators cease encouraging free and open discussion, even if it is a little "Beavis and Butthead" sometimes.

We don't wanna be AVS 2.0.

PS... If I could make one suggestion to the mods, can we PLEASE limit the amount of "I wish <insert movie here> would come to Blu-ray"? I get how a lot of people might enjoy these discussions, but I swear there's a dozen new wishlist threads a day.

I personally feel its because we are seeing an influx of non BD fans, but Sony/PS3 fans in general. They support BD ONLY because its Sony. These are typically the fans who are younger in age and post alot more immature things.

I've been noticing an increase in bickering and smartass behavior lately.

We're getting more people from the wastelands of AVS, HTF, and HDD.

Some of them will be able to adapt and become welcome members of the forum and others will eventually be dismissed.

I personally feel it's a personality flaw, and has absolutely nothing to do with which product a person prefers.

I agree, but it is to be expected since the PS3 is a big part of Blu-ray.

Default Frivolous threads

Asinine posts are fairly easy to block with aggressive use of the Ignore list. But is there anything mods can do about the recent proliferation of new threads which are repetitive, pointless or mere invitations to totally futile speculation? The information-oriented threads are getting lost in a welter of dimwitted blather.

May I politely ask the mods to vet new threads more carefully and merge, prune and reorganize them without mercy. If it's distasteful to delete them outright could they be shunted off into a cheerful "Blu Chit-chat -- All Welcome" section similar to this Off-Topic area which doesn't clutter up the main page?
