I normally don't look here much anymore, but lately they have changed to comparing Blu-ray and DVD, rather than HD DVD. So the point of this was to show how Blu-ray was doing against DVD, but another interesting thing has happened as well. We can now see not only how much better Blu-ray is doing on Amazon since the end of the format war, but in relation to an established and stable medium. If you look at the Blu-ray graphs set to show all, you can see how earlier on it was rather bumpy, big ups and big downs and usually low overall. But now, since the war ended, not only have the sales gone up, they have started to stabilize with less spikes and falls. This is, of course, a good thing. It means that Blu-ray IS able to compete with DVD. Right now, obviously, it is not selling nearly as well which shows on the graphs, but you can see how it has jumped up much closer to DVD, and also how the sales have been more constant. Really exciting. Also, it is cool to see how close the prices are. |

Good find! It is above all the DVDs!
![]() It is also important to point out that there are a number of titles on DVD that cost a lot... mostly box sets, but it does to show that people are willing to spend $30-$60 on a movie/series/mini-series so Blu-ray is not too expensive and people should really just look around before they shop. |

There haven't been a lot of releases in the last month that have sent me to the store either. I think everyone is caught up on their collections but there are so many good releases coming out in the next couple months will be interesting to see the graph move because of that.

The main issue in take-up would be the hurdle of getting a blu-ray player and this would require some convincing on PQ and AQ. First step would be getting a HDTV set. There is momentum on this and it is well under way. The next step is to show the PQ limitations of DVD when displayed on a HDTV set and convince to purchase a blu-ray player. Cheaper BDs would be the icing on the cake. |
