Default Largest consumer electronic retalier is exiting HD DVD competely! Liquidation!

Hi All,

to my understanding that even tho Toshiba has dropped HD DVD, BestBuy and some stores are still selling HD DVD and only promiting BluRay

here is the press release from Canada's largest consuerelectronics retailer and e-tailer:

"(Burnaby, BC) February 19, 2008 - - Future Shop, Canada's largest consumer electronics retailer and e-tailer, announces that it will move to Blu-ray as the format for next generation high-definition (HD) home theatre and entertainment technology. Future Shop will offer the largest selection of Blu-ray hardware and software in Canada.

Future Shop is exiting the HD-DVD market. Future Shop will liquidate its inventory and offer great deals on HD-DVD players for customers looking for quality branded DVD players.

"Future Shop recognizes that recent changes in the industry have placed Blu-ray as the next generation high-definition format. As a result Future Shop is now recommending Blu-ray software and hardware products to customers. This decision is great news for our customers as it now allows Future Shop to focus on Blu-ray technology exclusively, said Eric Stockner, Director of Home Theatre Merchandising, Future Shop."

I always think FutureShop is a SHIThole and I Still do, especially they never corrected the name from BluRay DVD to BluRay Disc, but this is still a very nice piece of news.

Ad circulars are printed many weeks (even months) in advance.

As I said in another thread, Circuit City is still gonna sell what HD-DVD players and films they have left at a discount. However Barnes and Nobles is gonna return the HD-DVDs back to the warehouses.

You know, I'm totally disappointed by my (Canadian) Best Buy. I was in there on Thursday and nothing has changed regarding their stock distribution since I entered the HDM market back in October.

There are two units for Blu and two for HD DVD. Hell, I noticed that there's even an HD DVD endcap which was never there before... pushing $10 off the HD DVDs on it. Absolutely NO advertising in-store about the outcome of the format war. No recommending of Blu-ray... If I didn't know better, I wouldn't have any idea that anything had changed in the format war.

Anyone else out there care to comment?

I spoke with an employee about this at my best buy, and he said in march once they officially start reccommending blu then we should see a huge difference.

I have stopped going to the best buy near my house for blus, since it appears that they haven't gotten any new movies in since the beginning of the year (they have, but only a few here and there). I even noticed that the last few weeks they weren't even getting the new releases!! or all of them at least.

Come on best buy get your shit together and paint the town blu

Future shop is great, but the prices aren't. It's basically a re-branded Best Buy. Good to hear that I won't be seeing red cases in there much longer though.

Are you sure, I ask because at the stores here (Houston area) they have been hiding the new BD releases mixed in with the new DVD releases NOT in the BD section, like a fracking game to see if you can find them!

YMMV?

Wow they are liquidating. The A3 is the only player on there for an HD DVD SA and it's quite funny to read the following:

Quote:
HD DVD is here, and better than ever.
The awfully buggy LG BH200 is down to CDN$499!

I wouldn't pay $50 for it.
