Yes, the conflict ended in our favor; but we all had moments that mildly upset us...left us chagrined, in bitter fervor against corporations and peoples we held no control over. Make no mistake, we all love our format. However...
Whether it be Paramount's flip-floppery on the eve of the big Transformers release...the big topic of grain in 300...seeing your favorite movie being delayed countless times...the countless Warner Bros. ports we suffered through...the lack of DTS-HD on the PS3...the posts about Batman and the Matrix...heck, even if this thread fills you with contempt...something out there irked you! What was it? ![]() Personally, for me it would have to be Fox's delaying of Master and Commander. October 2nd, then February 2nd, and now May 13th? They're breaking my heart on this, my favorite film of the new millenium. ![]() |

The Paramount day sucked . . . I was driving to Miami for vacation and I checked this site as soon as I got into the hotel and THAT was the first thing I saw.
Overall though, I would have to say my biggest disappointment has been the audio on Superman Returns. I saw this in the theater three times and the sound sucked every time, so I was expecting to be able to blow myself away with the BD, but such is not the case. And even worse, the HD DVD at least has TrueHD. With any luck though, the PCM version will be in my hands soon! |

Besides Paramount siding with HD-DVD, my two biggest disappointments were HD-DVD getting to market first and the crappy rush jobs of inaugural releases. Summer 2006 was the time I most feared that HD-DVD would pull off the victory.

I remember when the Paramount crap went down. I was 2 days into a week and a half long vacation. It made me kind of angry for the rest of my time off.
That was the biggest thing for me, plus all the Fox delays to a much lesser degree. |

The Paramounted deal was by far the biggest disappointment. But really, if we look at everything that happened in that war, there really wasn't all that much that was bad news for Blu-ray. It was one domino after another against Red, and then the Paramount thing happened, and we had a bad week. But BD continued to dominate, then Transformers week came, we still managed to pull the upset, after that, it was all downhill for HD-DVD.

This isn't my biggest disappointment, but it's one that's worthy of mention IMO: lack of dts-ma decoding on the PS3. Yes, I know it's supposed to eventually be released, but waiting for it still stinks.

Two items:
Lack of SACD support in most players and it being dropped from the latest version of the PS3. Not being able to find a regional Free DVD player (not BD) within any of the players. I know this is pretty much a legal issue but almost all DVD players I see here regardless of manufacturer is region free on DVD. I was hoping not to add another component, just replace one to perform all functions I needed but it didn't work out that way. |

I really had two things that were dissappointments for me. Number one is Paramount's "decision" to support HD DVD exclusively and number two (which was a by product of number one) is how long this whole "war" lasted. It should have been over before Christmas last year but because of Paramount it drug along another six months. But all is forgiven and we will soon have Paramount Blu-rays again.

There are a few things that annoy me, like PS3 DTS HDMA, Batman Begins, but time will solve those.
My biggest disappointment was the move by Paramount, everything was looking great for Blu-ray and it looked like by the end of the year it would be over. That decision made me believe that it would last all through 2009 and may never take off due to Paramount being paid for 18 months it looked like each side would buy studios for a limited time as Paramounts decision was not based on where the market was heading and once their contract was up they could go to the other side so you would have know idea if you would get their movies in a year. After that move for the next few weeks I really thought HDM would never take off because of what happened. |

Warner keep releasing subpar quality BD's on BD-25 on some of the best titles this year. Actually, in some instances, HD DVD got the better sound options.
