Default Calling all SVS owners!!!

Hello all,

I will be upgrading my subwoofer as soon as I get my tax return and I need some opinions:

First off, I don't want a supercube or any HSU's with a ridiculous "turbocharger" or anything like that. I have looked at all kinds of subwoofers and I'm set on an SVS. I really want to hear what the current owners of SVS subwoofers think. I am also VERY interseted in feedback from anyone with the cylinder style SVS subs. I am looking heavily at the 20-39 PC+, anyone got first hand experience with SVS subwoofers?

Default 20-39 PC+ would be the one for you

I have this one... and it rocks. FOr the price it's the best rockin Sub deal in the universe and it sounds great. First movie was "Pearl Harbour" and every gun shot rattled the heart out of my chest... hehe... would never regret this sub. Do you need the bigger one? Beats me... never tried it myself.

I have the PB10-IDS cube with 10" sub and I love it. It fits the 10 x 15 living room without overpowering it. I have it turned to 50% so it doesn't rattle everything in the room. It blends well with the JM Labs speakers. The customer service is first rate - I had the amp go out. Even though I am not the original owner, SVS didn't waste time sending me a replacement amp. I love this sub and can't really see myself going to anything else.

Good luck!

Hey Jeff,

How big is your room? I love to hear people say that they can feel the bass from these speakers! My room is not that big, 17X13 but I will be moving within a year and my setup will most likely reside in a larger room afterwards. Thats why I am leaning towards the PC+. I just want to make sure I don't need the ultra!

I have the PB12-Plus/2 and love it. This monster sub sits next to my couch in a 20x22 listening room and the level of bass is amazing. I highly recommend the purchase of their subs. Dollar for dollar I see nothing better then these guys.

I keep hearing this so I'm starting to get pretty excited! Unfortunately, I still have to wait for my tax return Would you guys mind posting your rooms sizes as well?

Mac,

While SVS is a great sub company, do yourself a favor and read a bit about the MFW-15 which has just been released by av123 (www.av123.com). You can see some good sub rankings in this thread:

MAC, what are you waiting for>? You have some good discipline... I own that same sub.... got it 2 years ago.... still amazes me 2 this very day! The only thing you remotely have 2 worry about is location of this big guy. Remmeber the drivers on these babies is projected downward, so hopefully you dont have a thick carpet. You would get more out of it with a solid floor. You will definately enjoy your tax return purchase for many years to come.

***Thx 4 reminding me... I never added my sub 2 my specs! (BB code size too big???)

Default Sub turned to about 40%

Hi ya' Daddy ;-)

Well... room is the living room with hard-wood floors.... approx 14' x 20' so not really that large with 8' ceiling. An average 60 year old home... built solid tho :-) Yeah, that ultra looks real cool... but SVS recommended the 20-39 for me... so I trusted them. The sub is more than adequate even for a large room. I think you'd need the ultra if you bought yourself a million dollar house with a 40' x 40' entertainment room. Hmm... even 40' x 40' cardboard boxes are a million dollars these days aren't they ;-) Actually... my living room is openned up to the dinning room... so even if it's 14' x 32' the sub is still more than adequate.

I think you should size the sub to the sitting location, and not necessarily the room dimension. If you have a 20x30 room, and you sit 20'+ from the sub, obviously you'll need a bigger/more powerful sub. However, if you have the sub sitting next to the chair/sofa, up along a wall or a corner, that's a different story. For my setup, the sub sits at a corner of the room and ~9' from the sofa. The 10" SVS works great. Of course, I still have another 6' or so from back of sofa to the back of room - which is just dead space.

I picked up a PB-13 Ultra recently for my 25 x 15 room and while it might be just a bit of overkill I actually quite enjoy the clean effortless bass it produces. Very usable even in a mid-sized room.

Clean effortless bass... you can tell there is power to spare if you dare...lol.
Yup... there are good monsters. I like the cylinders myself... just the shape appeals to me ;-) Makes me feel like I am over-compensating for something.. lol

You cannot go wrong with SVS. I have the new PC Ultra 13, and yes it's better than my previous SVS, the 25-31 PCi, but that PCi was pretty darn incredible. Everyone who came over and heard it was blown away. I've compared $2000 subs that didn't come close to comparing to that 'little' PCi. The Ultra 13 is unbelievable though.

I have the PB12-Plus/2 in a 20 by 20 room and there is no compare. You can not go wrong with these fine subs.

I would have to say the Ultra 13 is easily 2x better in the areas of smoothness, and 'ultra' low frequencies, especially for music. Since it has selectable tuning, it can be set for 20Hz, 15Hz, 10Hz or sealed. So far I've only played with 15Hz and 10Hz, and I've rattled parts of my house I didn't even know I had.

It still gives a very nice 'kick' in the gut feeling for movies, similar to the old PCi. From the few I've watched, I'd say the Ultra 13 is about 50% better than the PCi for movies, having more low end... but it depends on the movie.

I was perfectly happy with the PCi, and upgraded mostly because of the pre-order sale + previous-customer discount, oh, and the fact that I'm an upgrade junkie. Also, I liked the idea of all the on-board controls of the new Ultra, and actually, using the room modes and EQ, I was able to get it almost perfect for my room. The old PCi required an external EQ to flatten the response... had a couple of ugly humps. (I used the Behringer DSP1124P... anyone need an EQ?)

There are surely people out there who are harder to please than me, and some very critical reviewers out there, but from everything I've listened to, and know about SVS, they are a brand I can confidently recommend.
