Just received my new Sharp Aquos BD player after buying a 42" Aquos LCD. Has anybody had problems such as "Reading Disc" after inserting a BD? I inserted it and it just keeps reading disc. Also, Pixar Short Films BD has no sound. I returned the disk for another one at a different Best Buy, and still no sound. I have the lasted Firmware, but still having some issues. most discs do play with incredible Audio/Video display, but some are giving me a problem.
Anybody having similar experiences? If so, any ideas what to do besides smashing it!! ![]() |

Don't worry, the AV Moderator will show up and help you out. By the way, have you tried to update your player? Usually that is the problem. If you have some disc's that work and other's that don't, sounds like your connections are right on, so check for a update for your new player. These happen all the time so you have to stay current.

the exact same thing happened to me. I bought the same sharp player and the same blu-ray dvd by Pixar. We got sound during the trailers (ratatouille) 90% of the times we tried but absolutely no sound when the animations start. We exchanged for a new Pixar disc and the problem still continues. Did you try updating the software? I didn't even know that was possible. I am heading to the movies with my son now to see Spiderwick but when I come back I will try this as well.
Good luck and let me know if you got any sound. |

I also have a Sharp Aquos, BD-HP20U. If I go into the sound setup menu for the Pixar Shorts DVD and change the sound from Dolby 5.1 to "Dolby 5.1 Compressed" I can then get sound. However, it doesn't seem to work all the time. I have upgraded to the latest software revision BD-HP20U Firmware Version HU8022000. Not sure if this will be fixed with the next revision or not?

hu8022000.rvp is alone in the root directory of the USB drive. I've tried reformatting the USB drive (FAT) and have display 'hidden files' and 'system files' both on. And the USB light turns on when I insert it into the Sharp. But when I try to run SOFTWARE UPDATE I get the 'SOFTWARE UPDATE FILE IS NOT DETECTED' error message. Since Sharp was unkind enough to use the same error message for 'unable to read USB drive' and 'firmware file error' I was wondering if you might have any hints before I go and buy a new USB drive to try. thanks, leo |

I had a similar problem with "Gods and Generals". It would play any language but English, and I could'nt change it.
I called the manufacturer(Samsuck), and they said to set the audio output to "bitstream" ( it was set to PCM). That fixed the problem. They said that if the disc was outputting PCM, it wpuld switch automaiically. It does. |

I've got the same problem when trying to play Underdog. The previews play just fine but as soon as I get to the title menu I loose audio and never get it back. I've tried switching disks and upgrading firmware but neither helped.

Sounds like a software (Blu-ray movie) problem.I have a Sony BDP-300 with the latest firmware updates and I tried to play Resident Evil:Extinction, first it said movie was loading and then after about 3 minutes my display said "Cannot Play Disc".Tried it two more times and the bird loads on the screen but that's far as it goes and then the player would not open to take out movie.Had to power off player and then power on and hit open on remote. But loaded same movie in my PS3 and it loaded and played with no problem,so its not the movie its the player.

I have the Sharp BD HP20u and I updated the firmware and reset the unit and I have the same issue with the movie No Country for Old Men. It plays all the previews then loads the movie and actually plays the title page music but silence once you hit play. After an hour of checking settings I gave up and put in 30 DAys of Night and it worked fine. Maybe its the programming of certain discs. Will let you know if I figure out a fix. Later,Q

Same Issue. Updated the software to most recent version HU08022000. Sound from trailers is perfect. Sound from other BDs is perfect. Once you hit "play" there's no sound.

OK!!!! Got it. Had to go into the Setup menu for Audio, and change the output from 2 channel to Optical. (I had both connected to the Amp), but the amp was pulling only from the 2 channel. Apparently the previews on "No Country" will output to 2 channel, but the movie itself won't.
