Default Sony BDP S300

Hi all,

I'm new to this "blu-ray" stuff and have just bought the Sony BDP S300. I've a few questions with regards the S300.

1) Does anyone know if this player can play "burnt" blu-ray discs and which blank discs are the best to buy?
2) It doesn't read any dvd discs with AVI files on, does anyone know if a firmware upgrade or any other upgrade can correct this to enable it to play AVI's?
3) Apologies for being thick but how do I go about upgrading the firmware etc.

Thanks in advance,

Sludger

the firmware can be upgrade here http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...pl?mdl=BDPS300 just follow the directions. I don't believe this player will ever support the playing of AVI files.

Sludger,

Sorry, but I can't help with Q1 or Q2.

Re Q3, here's a link to Sony e-support for BDP-S300 firmware upgrades. You basically have to download a file to your computer, burn it onto a DVD, and then load it into the BDP using the instructions provided. I've successfully updated my BDP twice, so ir can't be two difficult.

See: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...00&region_id=1

Additionally, here's a link to this site's "official" BDP-S300 forum. You may find some additional useful info there.
