Default Cyberlink Ditching PowerDVD 7 jumping to 8?

I went on cyberlink's website this morning
wanting to check on updates...
Noticed that you could no longer buy powerdvd7 bd/hd edition...
then Tried to go to the site to find version 7 and everything is replaced with cyberlink powerdvd8
which mentions no support for bluray or hd-dvd....
did they give up or something?

are we all left out in the cold with outdated software? haha

Not true, I went to a small link that said to upgrade to PowerDVD 8 Ultra, it does offer BD support (no hd-dvd support). I'm going to stay with PowerDVD 7 Ultra and if they stop doing updates - no matter, I own Total Media Theater, and I also own WinDVD 9 Plus (for it's upconverting features - very impressive). If I need to update to Plus Bluray I will (no need right now because I just pass LPCM from my soundcard to my receiver). HTPC is being well taken care of

half their links are broken....
i found the blu support, but seriously, its freaking 60 dollar upgrade...
I think it should be free for anyone who shelled out 80 bucks for the previous upgrade only to have it still not play every movie...

wth?

Alas, you are correct. I think it should be free to anyone that has bought PowerDVD 7 Ultra as well. Since I use LPCM for audio, I find myself using Total Media more and more. When something doesn't work in PowerDvd, I can usually get it to work right in Total Media. Don't get me wrong - TM has its problems too - but when they put out an update - it really fixes it

do you know if total media plays terminator 3, ratatouille, spiderman 3 or Cars?

haha, if it plays those, I would switch without question
im so sick of cyberlinks support

I have had a ticket in with them for as long as I've owned the software to fix playback for those 4 movies, and they emailed me last night telling me that they don't have a solution, its a bug and has been elevated to the research department and I have to wait for a fix.

that's bull crap... shouldn't even be an issue...

Half? None of them work!
I can't even get to the forums, let alone go look at the new versions.

yeah its been getting worse as the morning has been going on
when I first checked, I could get to the support site, and the downloads,
which by the way the downloads page they took off the ability to buy the upgrade to 7 ultra deluxe... only offered 8
now all those pages are gone as well

okay their site is confusing now...
if you click the upgrade to pdvd 8 ultra, it takes you to a pdvd7 ultra page
and they don't really tell you if pdvd 8 has a new version number, or if it is just pdvd 7 3730a with a new cover, and a 60 dollar upgrade fee....

I think its a scam... haha any thoughts?

You have three choices for playing blu-ray - PowerDVD ultra, Total Media and Windvd9 Plus.

From my testing WinDVD9 Plus looks the best at the moment, PowerDVD Ultra is ok but as you can tell by their site not the best in the world for support and Total Media is a bit odd with graphics card support.

I'm sticking with WinDVD 9 Plus as my main player as it does DTS-HD Master Audio

well im going to try arcsoft
and Im going to see what I can "do" to evaluate windvd 9 plus, since their trial doesn't let you play bluray, and that kind of defeats the purpose in testing whether or not it will play my movies or not.

so the website has settled a little, and im still confused... they now have powerdvd ultra on the main advertisments, but when you click the link that says click here to upgrade to pdvd 8 ultra, it sends you to a pdvd7 ultra page...
is all this in a lame preparation for pdvd8?
kind of half assed if you ask me

WinDVD 9 stays true to form for WinDVD - it uses more processor to play BDs than PowerDVD Ultra 7.3.

As for PowerDVD 8, Last time I clicked it, I got a page displaying an image of PowerDVD Ultra, but it said null 7?

yeah that's what I get, minue the null part, but its version 7

earlier today, It displayed correct one time, before all the links went haywire, and it was powerdvd ultra 8....
i don't know what's up, except that im sick of pdvd...

its crap, and I want my money back from them, which im working on now...
rather put it towards a company that is actually trying...

I would like to try it as well, but 60 more bones is not worth it for me...

I would rather put 79 into another product that might follow through with its claims.

I just checked too and its gone! I think they've found something wrong with it or they realize that WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray may be a better product. I watch all of my SD's via WinDVD 9 Plus - extreme difference between all2hd and regular SD - you need a powerful processor though (you can't have hardware acceleration running in conjunction with all2hd).

Cyberlink's naming scheme is way too confusing. I'll bet its designed specifially to dupe people since its quite a chore to tell what version you currently own or what version you are upgrading to. They probably just hope people give up and get the best version to make sure they're completely covered.
For instance, my current version says Power DvD Ultra on the start up screen but it also says PowerDvD Deluxe in the scrolling text near the bottom. So I have PowerDvD 7.3 Deluxe Ultra ??? Lol wtf is up with that?

To make matter even more worse, they now have PowerDvD 8 Ultra and PowerDvD Ultra (i'm assuming the latter means PowerDvD 7 Ultra). Would-be upgraders need to be careful here since upgrades for both products are the same price ($59.95) but you can see they are different on the Cart page and also by the size of the download. Seems like they conveniently left out the 7.

See the links here:
Power DvD 8 Ultra
Power DvD (7?) Ultra

Unless something drastically goes wrong with my WinDvD 9 Plus, or someone who gets this tells me PowerDvD 8 blows WinDvD out of the water, I don't see myself upgrading.

However, for those who don't already own WinDvD 9 or PowerDvD 7.3, this would be a viable choice. Don't have any experience with Total Media.

well after testing windvd 9 plus plays the movies that pdvd could not...

so i am very pleased with windvd.... after a little testing, i think im going to switch over completely, and ditch my copy of pdvd on someone that doesn't know better.
