Default What's that sticker doing there?

Hi all,

I just had to share my frustration at the annoying sticker that's on every Bluy-Ray I buy over here in Holland. I don't know about the rest of the world, but I'm pretty sure it's the same for all of you.

Usually on the lower lefthand corner of the cover you'll find these BLUE ROUND stickers telling you to: "Discover the difference with high definition immage and sound. Can only be used with a Blu-Ray player" or something similar!

Now ... the box says Blu-Ray already.. it's a blue box.. it's smaller and thinner than DVD, and it even says Blu-Ray at the top. Why would I need YET another reminder that I'm buying a Blu-Ray disc?

Also.. I COULD possibly live with the sticker.. IF it was of the EASY-OFF variety, but it's not. Unbelievably so, these stickers require constand chopping and picking until they're off, leaving a thick nasty glue mark which you have to take off with some petro-chemical agent.

Why is that??? Is this SONY policy? How can we persuade them to stop this?

I can live with that sticker, if they would only get rid of the #@*^%$# security sticker(s)!
With a fully cello wrapped, and sometimes a sleeve too, why do they need these difficult-to-remove stickers?
Give us a break!

I haven't seen theses stickers.

Unfortunately, there are probably MANY non-Blu-ray owners buying these discs and then returning them to the store. I suspect that is why the stickers are there.

should have been there in 1997. People were renting DVD and the casier mentionned : It's a DVD, not a VHS

and the customer always said : Ah.... ok... going to put it back then...

Thumbs down

let's be honest, people are stupid with a capital S. They "STILL" have to put a disclaimer on the back of dvd to tell customers that the "black bars" are normal, and yes i have seen people pick up Blu's and i ask if they have a blu or ps3 and they tell me (yeah i got one of them fancy upconverter to play hd movies!)

In region A those stickers are on the plastic seal, not on the case itself.

So.. yes, I get all of your points with people being stupid and all that... BUT! Why can't that sticker be EASY-OFF ??? a clean, clear pull from the cover with no residue

.. instead, I'm left with eather:
1) Leaving it on there.. which I just don't like
2) Scraping it off, with the risk of damaging the case

Ah well, one of these days they'll stop I'm sure..

Hypothetically: I could remove that celephane with my nail, open the disc, and steal it without the case by the time I made it to the main exit.

That's why they put those there.

It's there because the general public is stupid. The average GP might buy a BD release by mistake, thinking that it's an oldray DVD.
