Unhappy is samsung trash or is it me?

hey all, just bought a bdp1000 and for whatever reason when i pop in the bd disc it goes through its normal loading sequence and after that it gets stuck in play mode (according to the display on the front of the player itself which reads "PLAY 00:00:00") and no video shows up....also the time never progresses just a blank screen

samsung tech support said nothing of use other than to reset the player to default settings

already tried lowering resolution and resetting the player to factory defaults as well as messing around with the parental controls. it should also be noted that im using a 1080p disc trying to display @ 1080i, would this be an issue? also, i am using the hdmi cable and normal dvds play fine

thanks for any help in advance!

Not at all...Have you updated the firmware? What movie are you trying to play?

haven't updated the firmware just yet, probably a good idea though how hard is that; just burn the image and pop it in the drive and wait?? was also wondering if there was a possibility of a region encoding issue...probably not though right?

also, trying to play The Covenant and The Descent sometime tomorrow hopefully

The Descent will not play without the latest firmware and The Covenant is a new release that may have the same issue (not sure if it had BD-J which is the issue with Descent.)

For what it's worth. I've had HD A1 and Sammy. And Sammy after patching (which I did first thing after I got it home) is a lot more reliable and better designed machine that A1. I've had single problem with all the BDs I've ever played in it, and restarting the player resolved that prob too. Don't own and HD DVD players now.
