Default Will this set-up give me 1080i video ?

Sorry if this has been rehashed before but I'm fairly new to surround sound and the more I read the more my head hurts. My current set-up;

Zenith 49" HDTV (5 years old - NO HDMI imputs or outputs. The best connection available is component.
Sony BDP S-300
DirecTV HD receiver.

I currently have both the Sony BPD S-300 and HD receiver connected directly to my tv with component connections. Eventually I will replace the tv with a newer full HD flat-screen , but for now the picture I am getting off of my 5 year old set is just amazing.

I want to add surround sound. After much reading I had settled on the Onkyo 605 receiver as my starting point. Would the proper way to connect all these components be: HDMI from Sony BPD S-300 to Onkyo 605; HDMI from HD receiver to Onkyo 605; and finally component connection from Onkyo 605 to my Zenith HD tv (no audio cables from the 605 to tv)? I read in one of the reviews for the 605 that it would not output a 1080 video signal if a component imput and HDMI output was used. So is the same true if the imput is HDMI and the output is component? If so, what is the best way to connect this setup untill I upgrade my tv? Thanks in advance for any light you can shine in my path.
