Default Verdict On Lpcm V.s Bitstream

ok people.
PLease what is better LPCM OR BITSTREAM?
i want to purchase the elite 92 receiver or the upcoming sony dg920 receiver.
but since my playsation 3 can decode dolby true hd and dts-hd-ma(soon to come) do i really need a receiver that can decode the lates tracks, since my ps3 can do it? And does dolby trueHD and DTS-HD-MA sound better on bitstream or LPCM? or vice versa? Because if it sounds better in bitstream then ill buy a stand alone blu ray player. well people what are your suggestions?

That would be a hands down Pioneer Elite. I wouldnt even think twice about it. The Elite is so much of a better receiver, plus it at least gives you the ability for bitstream, just incase bluray players start outperforming the ps3, which honestly they should be able to do in the future.

but the dg 920 has the interface, which would make navigation much easier.

The Pioneer does have an onscreen menu, although not a graphic interface. I have setup both a Denon with a graphic interface, and pioneer elite and neither were that hard to setup.

Elite! I have the 94 and love it, I know its not the 92, but you can't go wrong with an Elite.

Not a fair comparison, the Elite should be compared to Sony's ES line.

I think the answer to the author's question is..

No you don't need a receiver with the codecs.. Just need one that accepts audio pcm over HDMI. The PS3 doesn't send True HD and DTS-HD (when available) over bitstream anyway.
