Question DirecTv Upgrade Info Wanted!

Does anyone know how much it would cost to convert from analog DirecTv to Hi-Def dish and receivers? Any offers out there that include free hardware/dish upgrades free with subscription? I want Hi-Def,but I am already "dishing" LOL out $90/month for old analog satellite.

Once you buy the receiver (99.00 @ BB), it is an extra 10.99/month. You will have to have your dish outside upgraded as well. Directv upgraded my dish for free when they added more HD channels. Talk to them, I have had nothing but good experiences when dealing with their customer support.

Call them, and they will either upgrade all of your equipment for free, or a small charge.

I just had mine upgraded today, and let me tell you...the picture is SHA-WEET!

Cost breakdown:

HD DVR: $199 (regular HD receiver = $99) + $20 handling + tax = $235 ($130 for non-DVR)

Plus HD/DVR package: $72.99/month (price just went up from $69.99)
HD/DVR access fees: Included
HBO package: $14.00/month (price just went up from $13.00)

Installation: Free
HD dish: Free

Hope that helps.

I agree with the other responders. I got an HD DVR Receiver (before it went on sale) But from what I gather the HD DVR is now 199 - non DVR 99. DirecTV will install an new KaKU (HD Dish) for free.

With the amount you are spending now you can probably stay pretty flat (money wise) if you have the Plus Package + Premium Channel + HD Service

Picture Quality (PQ) is great.

I have a couple questions...my contract with DISHNetwork just expired and am interested in DirecTV.

1. If I get an HD-DVR can I watch HD programming on my 32" LCD (720p) and also connect to a non-HD tv elsewhere in the house? and could the non-HD tv access programs recorded in HD?

2. I have never canceled satelite service before, would I need to disconnect Dishnetwork in advance? or can I have the DirecTV guys come out and set up shop and just call DishNetwork to cancel?

3. Im looking at DirecTv website ("building" a system) and notice something that says: "DIRECTV® HD EXTRA PACK - $4.99 per month
Enhance your HD experience with a special group of high-definition-only channels that are not available in standard definition." but I cannot find info on what programs this is refering to?

...this is my setup and maybe someone can help me figure out my best options...

My bedroom has a 32" 720p LCD and My mother in law upstairs has an old CRT with only coaxial input. So I was thinking I need an HD-DVR in my room, that will also stream channels upstairs (my DishNetowrk standard Def receiver can send it upstairs, so im hopeing the directv HD DVR can also)

My living room has a 1080i (only) HDTV. Currently I have the Dishnetwork HD receiver but would like the HD DVR.

So altogether I think I need two HD-DVR's? and that will supply channels to all 3 TV's correct?

If you call Directv and tell them that Dish Network will set you up for free they may do the same for you. I have AT&T as my local phone provider/ internet/ TV service. They offered me their Dish HD programming for free if I switched from Directv. When I called Directv to tell them I was going to switch they gave me the whole upgrade for free and six months of HD programming for free too. I just had to commit to a two year deal or I would have to pay them back.

Nice deal!

yeah I was thinking of calling and playing the "I have DISH" card.

man, I just made it through the system building step...and just realized the $100 online HD-DVR discount only applies to 1 HD-DVR ...$300 start up cost to get 2 HD-DVR's!

DISH is a total rip off to upgrade to HD... I have many firends that are irritated, but for some reason they wont leave.. Call Directv.. They almost always make a good deal.. Im with them... Had all SD(which has been digital for a long time and not analog, btw)... I talked to a friendly CSR and they upgraded my stuff for free
