Default Directv upgrade help...

So I'm with Directv and have been for almost four years...I want to upgrade to the HR22 but I don't wanna pay for it. Dish network will give me a free HD DVR if I switch over to them. So my question is this...If i call Directv and threaten to cancel, do you think they will send me an HR22 free of charge? Just thought I'd ask before I did anything drastic. I really don't wanna switch as I love Directv, but I don't wanna pay for a new HD DVR...

You can ask, the problem with DirecTV now is they have gotten so huge, when you threaten to cancel, they don't really care anymore...not to say they don't want to keep your business...they just don't jump and give you free stuff...I find the easiest thing to do is call in and tell them you got a deal from Dish Network and you want to see if they can match it, or give you a great deal, more then likely they will let you have it for around $100 to $199, and bill it in installments....if they do that, that can help out...you could also ask them if they could give you a credit on your regular bill to help offset it, maybe free HBO or something for 3 or 4 months. That's probably the best you will get.

If the HR22 is your goal, I am sure DirecTV will work with you. In my case, they charged me up front for the HR22 DVR but then credited my account and so I had several months of service without a bill. Keep in mind that the DVR service is an additional cost each month (like $5, I think).

I am 100% happy with DirecTV service. I am not sure if DISH would have anything to offer beyond DirecTV service.

DirecTV will work with you. I just went thru my original HR20 which failed over time (not playing back a recorded event) to a HR21 replacement (that failed the same way right out of the box) to the HR22 (which is working perfectly). And they knocked some coin off my bill for all of the trouble that these machines caused me.

similar story --- had the HR20 (or 21--??), anyway, had some Major pixelation problems over a 4-7 week period. Sent a guy to my house, adjusted the dish, no change. 2nd visit, after Numerous calls (I HATE having to call for problems---you talk to 25 people before finding someone who Can help you!!), and the guy Had the HR22 with him, and just saw the problem as I had "recorded" some shows to show him the issues---He just swapped it out right there/then. No extra costs at all. LOve the new unit, no problems at all. Didn't even have to reprogram my Harmony 670!! Best part of the whole deal.

Just call up and ask for it. If they say no just politely ask them to transfer you to the CUSTOMER RENTENTION DEPT. They will take care of the rest.

They should work with you. Several years ago, DTV switched from customer ownership of the equipment to "leased" equipment. Standard HD receiver lease fee is 99. not sure what DVR boxes are. It's also possible you can find a sale at BB or similar - 99 for the box, but comes with 100 rebate on activation. (which is how I got both my HD boxes)

But since you will lease, not own, the box, you may have to pay a fee of some sort either way.

If you do not already have 5 LNB dish, call them and tell them you need one, and ask about the HR22 upgrade at the same time. I go my 5 lnb installed no charge as 'movers special' even though I hadn't moved in a couple of years. (but I have been a DTV customer for 12 years or so)

yeah hes right about that we called and asked about a dish network deal and said we had been loyal and we would sign a new agreement for 2 years but we wanted the free upgrade... 3 days later the guy came out and installed it.
