Default 5.1 SETUP Question

Hi all,
maybe someone can help me out with this. I decided to put a panel in my wall next to my media cabinet. It's basically a speaker jack panel. I will have banana plugs on the outside. The back of the panel is inside the media cabinet. Here is what I need help with. The plug for the Sub on the outside is no problem. Reg audio jack. On the back of the panel however the hole is much smaller and won't take an audio jack. I thought it should match the plug on the Sub preout on the back of the receiver(should be same size) but it doesn't. Is there a special sub plug that I don't have?
If I can't remedy this I will skip the sub plug on the panel and run the sub audio jack direct from sub to receiver.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Here is a link to the picture at Lowes.com

http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...-V1&lpage=none

In the pic you can see the sub input. On the other side though the input is much smaller.

In reference to the other question, I'm using an audio/rca jack. Should I be using something else. Is there a sub cable that has 2 different ends? I thought that regardless of what side of the plate the plugs ought to be the same. Am I wrong.
Thanks.

Default Sub cable

Sub cables are pretty standard "RCA" plugs on each end.. (some come with a ground wire also) They are most often heavily sheilded to block out an AC noise picked up by running them near power wires.
I would recomend running straight from the receiver/amp.
The reason being that a lot of the connection panels use a comon ground. this couold set up a ground loop and you will get a constant 60Hz hum from the sub. If you go direct that cannot happen.

that panel is made for head-phone jack type subwoofers like a mini/computer audio system would have. You can't connect your sub via that connection. I'd buy a separate RCA wall jack, and install it right next to it (or better yet, where you place your subwoofer)

Default I see....

The connection on the back will take "Cable" like the gable you use from the wall plate to the cable box. The company assumes you will be running this in wall and RG cable is rated for that..
See my post above... RG cable is heavily shielded and will work for long runs in wall...
Terminate the other end with a matching wall plate or get a coax/rca plug at radio shack..
Its actually a great idea to run it this way....

Thanks for all the fast replies and info. I think I will bypass that wall plate and do it direct from sub to receiver. I have another wall plate right below for some cables where I had it running originally. I'll just run it through there like I had it. It's all pretty well hidden anyway.
Thanks to everyone. I appreciate it.

I noticed on ththe Lowes lik that I posted it says this for the sub jack....
RCA to F-connector for subwoofer connection.
Can someone explain that? I'm not familiar with that.

Default Rca to F

That connection will let you plug in a RCA plug on the outside.. on the inside you would screw on a coax cable like RG6. (this is the type of cable the cable company uses to run in wall.
At the sub end you would have another plate with an F connector on the inside to screw your cable to and an RCA on the outside to connect a standard sub cable to going to your speaker.
I work for a company that does custom installs and we often use this RG cable to make in wall runs for everything from sub woofers to RGB component.
You simply adapt the ends to fit your needs.
Hope that helps..

That makes sense. I think what I will do is remove that little sub plug from the panel and run the plug/cable from the sub to the reciever through the hole in the plate. I think that's the easiest solution for me.
Thanks again.

Well, I ran everything speaker wise through the panel and ran separate audio for the sub and it all works great.
