Iv noticed alot of people saying the ps3 sounds lower when comparing the dts 1.5mb core to DTS-MA, also that on some bitreamed movie's(DD,DTS etc) the recevier is louder. you have have to make sure the ps3's volume is on+2. how do you do that? when waching a movie do this:
Triangle scroll over to volume control and you should see the volume that goes up to +2, I hope this help.

It depends, Iv noticed on some movies when i bitsream the lossy codecs the receiver sounds lower than the ps3. but when i let the ps3 deocode it, its much more clear and louder. same thing with the dts core, ps3 decoding sounds better than the AV decoding, but if you set the volume on the ps3 to normal they both sound the same.

I believe that volume control is meant for when the contents you're playing are fluctuating in volume IE when you're playing a mixed of MP3s from different albums or different trailers or video clips.
When you're watching movies, you tend to watch just one movie at any given time. So all you need to do is just crank your receiver and be done with it. That is if the audio is low. fuad |

I have to reply to this only because I think it's being overlooked...
While the +2 volume does indeed increase the volume, I have found that if the audio track was produced in such a way that it was just under the clipping range and then you boost the volume +2 it will cause clipping regardless of receiver volume. For instance if you play some MP3's that you find to be typically louder on the PS3, boost the volume +2 and you should begin to hear distortion due to the db boost. I remember hearing it on a movie I watched, too, because I used to use the +2 until I started hearing the clipping. I'll see if I can't find which movie it was and post here. Just something to be aware of, clipping isn't good. |

Dream Theater's Octavarium CD was the first I heard the clipping on, and subsequently on a movie I watched (I will find which one when I get a chance) but with plenty of different MP3's as well (Tool: Sober, did this to me), but I've turned it off to 0 because clipping isn't too friendly for the audiophiles in us all.
