Connecting PS3 with Onkyo - Blu-ray Forum

Hi I'm having a little trouble understanding the new PCM update for the PS3 and how to get the best sound out of my Onkyo system.
I own an HT-SR800 7.1 system and I've downloaded the new update for my PS3. I'm using optical to connect to my PS3 and simply want to know what is the best setting for both my PS3 and Receiver to get the most out of my BluRay collection. I also just bought Independence Day to try it all out considering it has the DTS Lossless audio.
Any help would be much appreciated

to get any of the new codecs you have to use hdmi with the ps3. set it to pcm and not bitstream and in the audio settings have everything selected.

sorry, but you need an HDMI Receiver with the PS3...optical for audio will not achieve.

Adjust your audio settings to output PCM.

Oh and another question? Can my System output the higher khz settings that were just made available in the new ps3 update? When I check the corresponding boxes for them, it says if my receiver doesn't support them, it may damage my speakers? Help

You will not achieve lossless audio with the HT-SR800 receiver unfortunately.
The receiver only does HDMI passthrough. (Video only) You will need to upgrade your receiver to obtain lossless audio.
