Default Breaking in your Plasma TV with your PS3 music player?

I had some friends over the other night, just hanging out and drinking, when someone asked if I could put some music on. So, I fired up my PS3 and played saved MP3 files for background music. The visual player was set to the default mode, where the screen constantly changes colour and shapes/highlights move with the beat of the music. Since I'm planning to buy a plasma in a few weeks, the thought of where to find a break-in dvd/blu-ray kept crossing my mind (ever since I made my decision, it's pretty much all I can think about, lol). Anyhow, I was watching these random, flowing, colours and waves on my tv screen, and it suddenly occured to me that the visual player on the PS3 could make an effective Plasma break-in device.

I can set my PS3 MP3 playlists to play random songs with the visual player on, indefinitely. Also, I'm not worried about my PS3 as it runs 24/7, folding@home when I'm not playing games, movies, or browsing.

So, now I set this question to the Plasma HDTV experts on this forum who have a PS3... will this be an effective way to break in a Plasma TV?

For those that don't know, when playing MP3s on the PS3, there are 4 visual options.

1) Default XMB wave screen, which has a colour band that slowly oscillates in the center. I ruled this out, as much of the background colour won't change for hours depending on the time of day.

2) XMB screen with all of the Xross Media Bar icons as static images on the screen.

3) The Earthfall screensaver. Where images of the planet will scroll by in space with varying degrees of proximity.

4) The original Visual Player which, as I mentioned before, goes through a number of background colour changes, with varying shapes that scroll by from any number of directions and angles. There are no static images or colours in this mode. In the bottom corner of the screen the song name will appear briefly when the song changes.

Safe bet for the first 300 hours
1)Stay away from break-in disk
2)NO gaming
3)Turn brightness and contrast to 50% or below.
4)Use your cable/satellite feed . If you have HD channels tune into them as much as possible staying away from top / side bars.

PS
Congratulations on your Plasma

#1 is interesting, because that is when you would use a break in disc (first 300 hours)?? Are you saying to use it after 300 hours, then it wouldn't be a 'break in' disc anymore.

Almost all the HD channels have logos on them now. Isn't that not a good idea either?

When breaking mine in
"HDNET Movies" DTV channel 78 , "HDNET" DTV channel 79 and Discovery HD worked outstanding.
There are more then a few SD channels that fit the bill as well.

Notice in link I said 100HR....during/after 100 hr of viewing I still got minor screen retention and went with 300 hr break-in finding it to take longer but worth the wait

Break in the TV how? As far as I know you don't have to worry about burn in anymore.

Plasma break-in procedures belong in the same bin as $1k/foot speaker cables, they're equally useful.

Well that's not smart.
Plasma gurus over at AVS will agree with no gaming during Plasma break-in but lets take a google lookse .
Google "Plasma tv breakin" and link below ranked #3

http://www.plasmatelevisions.org/art...-problems.html

QUOTE from link above
Burn-In Tips
Here are some tips that will help you avoid burn-in if you like playing games.

Take extra care during the first 100 to 150 hours of your plasma TV's life. If possible, don't play any games during this time. Let your TV break-in, and just watch regular TV programming.
Tone down the Contrast and Brightness levels of your TV. Often, plasma TVs come with higher than normal settings, which are well-suited for the showroom but excessive for your home. High contrast and brightness levels will make your plasma screen more susceptible to burn-in.
Buy a good brand of TV with a good set of anti-burn-in features (or burn-in resistance). These features include anti-burn-in circuits, proprietary phosphor technology, and pixel shifting, among others.
Speaking of anti-burn-in features, activate them once you start playing games. These include the orbiter feature (auto pixel shift), inversion, and whitewash ("all white").

END QUOTE

You may think gaming during breakin is doing no harm yet you are quite wrong
phosphors in Plasma TV are very sensitive in the first couple hundred of hours .Displaying sticked / Static images for long periods of time can burn into screen and more pron to burnt pixels tomorrow , next week ,next month , next year , 5 years ,10 years down the road .

good luck

Phil C

[QUOTE=Sling;817592]Safe bet for the first 300 hours
1)Stay away from break-in disk

So, is a break-in disk just not necessary, and only useful if you can't wait a few hundred hours of normal TV watching? Can it actually harm the plasma? I find this interesting since they are so high on the break-in disk @ AVS.

break-in disk are not necessary .
BDisk can be harmful to new phosphors leaving TV on for long periods of time.

There are more then a few users of BDisk that have found burnt pixels during running disk for long periods of time and had DVD player freeze up during BDisk marathon finding out that DVD player menu had been displayed while sleeping or at work...NOT GOOD

Like I said its a 50 /50 split .there are more then a few AVS plasma TV vets that don't believe in BDisk.
If BDisk are such a good thing Samsung , Pio and panny would have thrown one in the box your TV came in.
when it comes to the popularity of BDisk over at AVS hmm AVS loved HD DVD lol.

Breakin disk are a gamble.
