I have an Onkyo 605. I have had it for a few months, with no issues. I had new carpet installed last week and had to move furniture around. I unplugged all of my home theater stuff and put it in another room for a couple of days, including my Onkyo 605.
Well, I just plugged everything back in and put everything back like it was. I have my PS3 going to my Onkyo 605 via HDMI and HDMI then going to my TV. I started to watch Juno and about 10 minutes into it just shuts off and the standby red light just flashes. Nothing happens after a couple minutes so I hit the power button and it comes back on, but shuts down after a couple seconds. I then decide to try and run the Audessy test for my speakers thinking maybe they didn't go back into the same exact spot and after it checks the front left speaker it shuts off and does the same thing. I turn it on again and this time it gets to the center speaker and then shuts off. Is this a normal issue and I just have to do something when plugging it back in after a couple of days of being disconnected? I am hoping I don't have to send it back or anything because it would be a hassle. I've only had it for 2-3 months. |

others have had similar issues with different receivers. cause is frayed wire ends. check the speaker connections on the back of the 605 and make sure theyre all neat and connected. its a safety feature that the unit shuts itself off.

Would you suggest just cutting the ends off with some wire cutters and redo the ends into the banana plugs like I currently have setup? Should I also check the connections of the wire ends going into the speakers as well? Thanks. |

I used to have similar problems with my Sony when I had wire cap connectors and I would turn the sound up. My house was pre-wired, but I had to have longer wires to my receiver.
I eventually wrapped them all in electrical tape (without the caps) and it stopped doing it. Basically I guess some weren't making good connections. |

I think I found the problem.
I check the spring connections on the back of every speaker and found that the red spring clip on the center speaker fell out and wasn't holding the speaker wire in the hole. I unplugged the speaker and ran the Auddessy test and it worked without shutting off. I haven't had time to fix the spring clip, but I think that is the problem. |

I'm thinking of somehow using tape to hold it in. I dunno what to do. |

I thought about returning it (Frys) but don't know what I did with my receipt. It's been about 2-3 months, I doubt they'll take it back especially without a receipt. |
