Default HD Cable Broadcasts

Hi All,

I have a Samsung 42" 780p 1080i Plasma with a high def cable box from my cable provider (Shaw) and am curious if anyone knows what format the HD broadcasts are..ie 480P,720P etc.etc ?

Also, will i notice any diffrence in picture quality going to a blu-ray player ?

Thanks in advance

I have Direct Tv and the highest it goes on my box is 720p and 1080i. I believe broadcasting companies dont have the bandwith to go 1080p.

I just purchased a blu ray player this week and I was blown away by the difference in visuals. To me it was comparable to the first time you see the difference from regular to hd, only it was super hd.

I'm with Shaw too.

First off: 480p is NOT HD!

HD formats depend on the channel (I think). They'll either be 1080i or 720p.

Going from cable HD to Blu-ray is like night and day. Blu-ray is *far* superior than cable HD!
