Default How much better than HD broadcasts?

Watching TNT HD right now with Saving Private Ryan. I know TNT "fakes" some of the HD content, but man SPR is awesome. Knowing that it's not out on blu ray...can some of you guys comment on the comparison between HD broadcasts and blu ray?

Still waiting on my Panny 55 to ship.

I was watching a bit of SPR tonight too!

...looked pretty good. But not as sharp as it can be on bluray. Don't get me wrong, there are some bad looking blurays...but when you watch a great one, there is no comparison.

Also, saving private ryan with Lossless audio would be the deal maker. Too bad its not on Blu yet.

I was watching the SPR on TNTHD and can't stand the picture quality of it. Maybe is just the Comcast in my area.

There are alot of artifacts in the screen due to compression, which you won't see on the BD most likely. The Grain is part of the film no matter what format you watch it on.

I'm was watching a little bit of Shrek 2 on ABC tonight, and while the picture looks excellent, there's alot of PQ degradation in this viewing. I don't own this on Blu Ray but I'm sure those artifacts would be gone. Watching this either on Direct TV, or through OTA via my antenna, the results are the same.

If you got the TV (1080p) then you can tell a difference. Kinda goes like this IMO

Std TV < DVD < HD TV < Blu

You can tell a difference. Some of it varies depending on the how, the cable / satellite company etc. But this formula is pretty sound. Sounds obvious but the difference is noticeable

& happy new year

Yep, compression artifacts and lack of lossless is the deal breaker for me. Tried watching Transformers on HBOHD...
