Default Pioneer BD/Asus P5E-VM HDMI/WinDVD 8

Hello to all...

So i just assembled a new PC with the ASUS P5E-VM HDMI mobo as the platform. It is a G35/X3500 chipset motherboard.
I purchased a Pioneer BDrom to go with it and it came bundled with Win DVD 8 LE.

When i launch WinDVD it says "Playback with current video driver is not supported, please update to an appropriate display driver".

So I guess that this bundled version is old enough that it has no idea about the newer chipsets.

I see WinDVD 9 is out, but is there a consensus on a better solution/software package?

Do any of the codec packs out there have support for Blu Ray?

Thanks.

G.

WinDVD 8 LE is only useful as a coffee cup coaster

Each person has their own preference on the player to use - WinDVD 9 Plus, PowerDVD 8 or Arcsoft Total Media. WinDVD 9 Plus is good but doesn't do DTS-Master Audio - PowerDVD 8 does but Cyberlink has a bit of a history of upsetting people with changes to the software. Total Media is a bit iffy with cards (unless they have produced an update to fix it).

Choice is entirely up to you.

As there being codec packs out there for blu-ray there arn't any afaik.

Isnt the P5E the intel chipset motherboard?

That thing is a disaster. Intel cannot write drivers worth crap, so you are forced to use Vista if you want HDCP (which means no legal HD playback in XP).

Also, Windvd is a joke, try PowerDVD.

Yes, it is an Intel G35 chipset mobo with x3500 graphics.

Thanks for the suggestions.
