Default Cd Feature Left Off Some Blu-ray Players Is A Minor Feature

The Samsung, Philips, Panasonic, and Sony Playstation 3 Blu-ray players play CD’s. The Pioneer BDP-HD1 and Sony BDP-S1 are great players with 1080P/24 support but they don’t play CD’s. Most likely second generation Pioneer and Sony machines will play CD’s. Sony and Pioneer wanted to get these first generation high quality players to market as soon as possible and they most likely felt the CD feature being left off is a miner feature. Possible with a firmware update the CD feature could be added.
If I owned a display that accept 1080P/24 I would buy the Pioneer Blu-ray and to me the CD feature is a minor issue. People that own a basic 1080P set with out 24 fps input would enjoy the Sony Playstation 3. For the average user the Playstation 3 is the way to go.

The first Pioneer Blu-ray computer drive on May 17th also lacked CD support. Someone that was paying $1,000 for a unit already owns one or two $40+ burner for CD's.

The Sony sxrd does support 1080P/24 so its a perfect match for my bdp s1. As far as cd playback I just use my dvd player. Still got room for more components on my shelf.

Default question

Ken, I was considering buying a Sony SXRD but looking threw the manuals the only one that mentions 1080P/24 was the Sony front projector. Even the 70” rear projector mentioned 60HZ but never mentioned 24HZ. Are you sure your Sony BDP S1 is set for 1080p/24 and not 1080p/60? It would be awesome if the 2006 line of Sony rear projectors accept a 1080p/24 signal. Looking threw all the product specs and manuals Sony does not mention 1080P/24 for the SXRD rear projectors.

I believe that lack of CD support is dumbfounding for the Sony stand-alone (gen1) and Pioneer gen1.

Especially with the Pioneer, you pay more than 1000 in American dollars for a device that doesn't even play CDs.

Yet CDs have already existed in the 80's. This year 2007, not 1987.

This is already the 21st century and Pioneer skimped on such a BASIC feature?

Useless indeed and I consider it stupid to buy an expensive player that can't even play CDs yet my super-old Playstation 1 can?

Pioneer Elite Player Gen.1 IS NOT WORTH IT.

You'd be better off with a Panasonic DMP-BD10 or a PS3.

Yes, when doing my system setup it was available on both so I set it to that setting. Why would they offer that if they weren't available.

Default thanks for the info

If the display is accepting a 24HZ input it must be converting it to 60HZ refresh. Some displays like the Sony front projector will convert the 24HZ to 96HZ. The Pioneer Plasma will convert 24HZ refresh to 72HZ. New displays scheduled for 2007 will have 120HZ refresh.
Thanks for the info. Sony should mention the 1080P/24 feature in their manual for SXRD rear projectors.

Default New players coming

Sony plans on offering 2 new Blu-ray players for 2007. Most likely they will play CD’s. We should also see a second generation Pioneer 1.3 HDMI Blu-ray player sometime this year that most likely will play CD’s.

CD support should be a given. It's not like the technology is expensive or anything.

Agreed.

I don't know if this would have affect on the Pioneer Gen1 Blu-ray player as majority say it's not worth it.

Hopefully for their Gen2, Pioneer would at least put CD support along with HDMI 1.3 and the usual stuff.
