Default Fios ? ? ? ?

Fios is soon to arrive in my area. Has anyone here used FIOS? Any input on PQ, packages, etc would be appreciated.

Thanks

I've got their internet, my mother in law has both internet and cable. The internet is much faster and much more consistent, and the PQ of the television service is much better than Bright House, which she had before.

Basically it is the best Internet service you can buy in the U.S. unless you want to go to a commercial provider. As long as you don't need to contact Verizon's pathetic customer service lines it's awesome.

Its available in my area, but I am still holding off, because right now they offer less HD then my cable provider....I also dont want to get wrapped into a 1-2 year contract to get the "good" prices. While I have seen it highly recommended, I would definately do some research and comparison between what you get now and what FIOS offers you.

I know my Cable co will give you big discounts if you say you're going to switch to FIOS. They will give you the discounts as long as you stay with them until the end of the year.....

For SD quality I have heard that FIOS is the tops, for HD quality I think it may be on par with what you get now (depending o your area)......For me its all about the HD so until this summer when my cable co and FIOS should be increasing thier channel numbers I am on hold...

It'll take many years before I ever see something like FIOS in my area. I'd encourage anyone that can get it or its equivalent to do so. The feedback from customers that have it really speaks for itself. Blazing fast Internet, great picture quality on TV, etc.

Doesn't AT&T have a service like FIOS as well?

I'd get it in a heartbeat myself if I could.

Yup, he's probably telling the truth. I have friends that live in VA that are willing to spend big bucks and they can't get any broadband Internet at all except for garbage like DirectWay or something like that.

So there's a lot of areas where it really will take many years before they ever see the likes of FIOS. I suspect my area is also one of them although I'm getting pretty good Internet through the cable company.

I live in Ohio and I'm about an hour north of Dayton in what would be considered a rural area. I'm amazed I can even get the Internet that I get through Time Warner Cable. It will be probably 5 years, at least, and I'm being generous before I would ever see something like FIOS around here.

I'm paying near $60 a month for 15 MBPS/768 upload maximum thereabouts. That's not bad for what it is in performance but it's expensive because they can get away with charging that. If AT&T and Verizon ever get something going in areas like mine it'll be amazing to watch the tight competition finally bring prices down to Earth around here.

I think people with FIOS are getting a lot faster than what I have for cheaper, yes?

+1... no question at all.

there is no question that you get what you pay for. For those folks (like me) who've been regularly bitten by the cable companies' semi-annual price increases, having the contract is nice. Also, Verizon FiOS has WAY more HD channels than my local Bright House folks do...

I have 20D/5U for $50 a month with a 2 year contract. I have my phone as well and the total is about $85 a month. As soon as they get the franchise for NYC I'm in for TV as well. I hate Time Warner so anything is better.

I pay $49.99 for 20 down/5 up. I don't think they offer that anymore though.

As do I but they do have the best Internet in our area by far.

Thankfully, I can DirecTV so I'm not reliant on TWC for my TV and HDTV needs.

Hi, sorry for the dumb Q.

vios = internet right? They also offer HD TV?

I am with Comcast package right now, paying about $90 / month including the HD Cable with encore movie channel + basic cable service (I believe it is 5 up/5 down) My fiancee and I watch a lot of shows such as CSI, Survivors, HGTV, etc etc (in HD).

I am not sure if I want to make the switch to Fios. some sales person just knocked my door a couple weeks ago asking if we are interested in Fios, and I said Not at the moment..

I can get DirectTV or Dish Network, but I have to have Howard Stern on demand, so it has to be cable.
