Default Anyone have problems with Fios?

After my Fios installation this weekend I find that 95% of my HD channels (more than 50 or so) are either pixelated or will not even come in at all leaving me with a message displaying that the channel in not available at this time. Also am missing blocks of non-HD channels that have no picture at all when dialed in, for instance 139-145 and 161-164, etc.

After resetting my boxes/modem with a technician over the phone the problems continue and a technician will be out to my home again on Saturday.

Has anyone had a similar experience to share with a possible solution? I was thinking maybe old coax cable in my home? Old splitters?

why do you think thats its old wire and splitters? this is all stuff that the installer should have reconized when he was there.

Yes, you are correct. I have thought about that. They said that installation would take between 4-6 hours and he was done in less than 2.

I don't know that much about Fios. I undestand that it is a complicated set-up and a more powerful but also more delicate signal. I think he may have rush through the process.

Cable service sucks. youre sharing your line with everyone else in your neighborhood. Ive had cable in the past and when I upgraded with Directv it was a big jump in quality pic. Stick with Directv.

Yeah, but FiOS is better than DirecTV.

I switched from Comcast to FIOS last March and so far, so good. No problems like those you describe. As far as cables, they ran in some new cable into the house for installation, and tested my existing coax to each TV. One of the tests failed (to the TV in my basement), so they installed new coax for that set and reused some of my Comcast cables for the other TVs in the house. Do you have more than one TV, and is the problem on both sets?

I've had FIOS for about a year now and no problem with the signal. The picture quality was better than cable and I don't have to deal with having a dish dangling on the side of the house.

Call Verizon and have them send a technician out to check. Maybe the initial installation wasn't done right. When I had mine, the guy was very methodical. He did everything in a logical sequence and cut and splice the fiber optics perfectly. He even showed me the signal reading on the installed lines.

So far I'm happy with FIOS.

fios is only slightly better than cable but their on demand blows. the only reason i switched to fios was for all the hd channels. i didn't even get the phone service & they still mounted this battery on my wall & it looks like a ghostbusters backpack.

When I had if first installed. I had that problem, lots of channels would pixelate but after a day or so, it was fine. The guy even said it would do that. Hope this helps

I would have stuck with direct tv but I did not have the line of sight to obtain the signal for HD, only a one LBN.

After 3 days still the same problems. I hope the tech this weekend will figure it out.

Thanks to all for your responses.

MOCHA can be affected by poor stuff, and it's difficult to determine, even with traditional coax only service. And can be a bit sporadic.

The 6 estimate is on the 'long' side, while the 2 hr is closer to most common time frame.

I personally haven't heard of that sort of problem, but then again I don't really scour for them . The tech should be alot more able to help you out though, and at least the signal integrity.

One fun question though, you're not routing the coax through a UPS or anything like on your end right? That actually caused a problem for me with my traditional cable service dropping connectivity in high traffic.

Just an add on my comment with the surge stop, and the tech pretty much suggested that step which did fix it. I can imagine you still want to keep the coax under surge suppression though . Just something to test at least.

I have very strict Homeowner's association laws and the few places I am allowed to place my dish, I had no line of sight for the 3 satellites that the tech told me I needed for HD service.

It was a matter of trees and mainly the house next door is too close. I did ask my neighbor if he would move his house but he has taken no action.

No, I am not running the coax line through any kind of surge filter. I guess the issue could be a number of things, I just hope that I dont need to re-wire my house with new cable. The install tech kept telling me how sensitive the signal is and if the cable is bent too much it will cause problems.

Who knows what the cable on the inside of my walls looks like?

The fibre optic cables can be troublesome if bent too much. That said, once the signal is on the coax, it's well on the coaxial, it's just twisted copper. And the tolerance there for bending the cables is far greater .

Anyway, let us know how it goes, .

coax is not twisted copper. that would be cat-5 witch cable does not run around the house for your t.v's. cable has a solid center conductor. think of coax like a garden hose, if you bend it to much or kink it or put staples through it or if it's really old the water/signal will not properly pass through it. contrary to popular belief coax with copper braiding is the worst crap you can get, avoid it by all means. the braiding is meant to SHEILD the center conductor and dielectric from o.t.a signals and copper does a very poor job of this, steal braid is ideal and the copper center conductor needs to be very sturdy, you should not be able to bend it easily.

By the way....when you called Verizon to have the tech come back out, you should have told them you had a improper install. They usually take off the installation fee or give your some kind of discount.

I bought into the FIOS hype. It was OK in the beginning, then they kept updating the software. They kept changing how their system worked. Went from good to bad. Had enough. Both myself and my daughter switched back to DirecTV.
