Well I did it ,I picked up the new Sr-7002 yesterday morning, but I had to work last night so ,Just took it out of the box and looked it over before going to bed , This thing is huge and really heavy , looks awsome Just a shame I'm not even going to use 75% of it , only thing I'm using it for is Movies for blu-ray via HDMI . Anyways Been playing with this all morning ,somethings in the manual are misleading and confussing, but figuring it out, Myself I really don't care for the remote , to much , so bottom line I got it up & running and going to do some testing and see what happens ,I hope it shines because it was a lot of money , but hey looks AWSOME, Alsos the best thing is I saw the new specs for the Marantz BD-8002 blu-ray , now this is really AWSOME, got a good price on a pre-order for it , so it should go well the sr-7002 ,,Be back later with some more input & Pics.
Any one that has the sr-7002 that has any advice for setup or info please LMk thanks , |

Thanks Beta man , I have been going back & forth on this for two weeks , Not really sure if I could spend the money for it, How do you like the 5001 ? I had the 4001 & traded it in on the 7002 ,I really liked the 4001 it was a great mid range recv. the sound was awsome and the PCM was perfect. Thats why i had a hard time , I also looked t the 7001 the shop i deal with still has three of them , they had them on sale for $850.00 not a bad price, Got a ? what remote do you have with the 7001 ,I have the new LCD remote and I have read the manual all day ,the remote LCD screen never goes off ,I mean the info is still on it after the back light goes out ,Is this normal? I'm going post a ? on it here & see if anyone else has one & see what they say.Still alot to learn on it.I have spent all day messing with the setings and reading ,finally sat down to watch a movie tonight ( Die Hard 4) kept falling asleep , been along week ,LOL Any ways have a good one with your new 5001 .Marantz is great EQ. built like a tank.TTYL

Have a ? about the LCD remote ,i just got the new Marantz-7002 Yesterday ,Been playing with it all day ,alot of reading ,Anyways the ? is On the LCD screen the information still stays on the screen even after the backlight goes out and even if the remote sits for awhile , I looked all through the manual & can't find any info on this , It seems like it sould go into sleep mode or turn off after a while , In the past I had the Marantz AV-600 Pros, & the RC-2000 remote & thats how it work ,After 5 min. it would turn off so nothing was on the sceen ,If anyone has this please LMk thanks

1) Actually I "got" the 5001 for the bedroom, but it hasn't gotten here yet (should be delivered tomorrow) I don't have the speakers for that room yet anyways!!! Gotta get to the store! 2) I currently use a "remote Commander" remote by Sony, but UPS guy dropped off my new Pronto TSU9600 this morning (according to my shipping notification) but I haven't had any abnormal issues with my current remote (but I use it to turn on, select inputs, and adjust the volume) I never program my remotes to their full potentials I guess....... I had a couple hundred in credit from Amazon, and the new Pronto was $730 new (and it doesn't say it was a refurb, so it better not be!!!) I still need to get a IR-To-Blue Tooth thing, but I'm lazy (and I always turn off the PS3 from the back, and not leave it on standby... not sure why, I just do) 3) I'm sure I'll be happy with the 5001, I love my 7001, and listened to the 5001 at a local shop, and the sound quality of their entire line has never let me down (or their build quality for that matter) If you don't need "flashy lights" etc... Marantz makes great units! |

I've got the SR-8002. It has a few bugs, but sounds really great. There is an LFE bug with the Audyssey EQ on the SR-8002 models (unless they've changed firmware at the factory). I avoid their +9db "fix" because it doesn't really "fix" the problem I have. I just copied all of the Audyssey EQ settings and channel levels into preset EQ mode and use it that way. Then I have no problems.
The 8002 (not sure about the 7002 -- it may be different) also suffers from the "DTS-MA bomb" that happens on discs like The Golden Compass when bitstreaming. This "bomb" means that some DTS-MA discs, when bitstreamed, emit a huge BOOM/crackle that can damage speakers. Any receiver with a certain Texas Instruments decoder chip of some kind suffer from this, including some by Onkyo and Yamaha. Onkyo, at least, offers user-upgradeable firmware. Not Marantz, which sucks. They rarely issue firmware fixes, and you have to ship away your receiver to do it if they ever do. So I spend well over $1,000 on a receiver to decode lossless DTS-MA over bitstream and this player won't do it without possibly damaging my speakers. Nice. I read on another board that a class-action suit may be brewing, which would be mighty interesting given that Marantz is currently being sold. I wonder if that would lower the price and scare some people into being more forward about firmware? I hope so. Good news is that LPCM doesn't have this bug, and it all sounds about the same as bitstream anyway, so it's not a big deal. This all has me very sad, but the SR-8002 sounds really wonderful, doesn't run too hot, and has no HDMI issues with my PS3. Enjoy your 7002! Last edited by Ectoplasm; 05-18-2008 at 12:06 AM. |
