Default From DVR to DVD?

Just wondering if I could take recorded TV shows off my DVR (some are in HD) onto DVD. If so, how would I go about doing such a thing? And an even bigger question is, is it legal to do so?
Box is a Motorola and my service is through comcast

It's possible on some DVRs via hacking them and transferring the programs to your computer. The legality for personal use is somewhat up in the air and depends on who you ask. The content owners would say no.

Another possibility is record them off the analog outputs using a dvd recorder, though of course you get the small generational loss of going that route.

I heard from a friend you can use the firewire port and connect that to your computer, and use windows movie maker to record the show to your computer, then burn that to a disc.

Thanks for the tips, you two. The box does have an SATA port, but I am not sure if its out going or in going (probably both!?) and I do have an external SATA port on my PC... wonder if I can treat the DVR as an external HD and just copy the files over

Then again, comcast probably locked out most of the "good" features on the box
