Firmware is taking ridiculously long to DL and has already failed once, I have an internet connection, what could be the deal?

Try downloading the update from your PC onto a flash drive (usb) and download the firmware that way.

ok found it on sonys page thx for your help! I will do it this way, it's dling again, but its only on 2 percent... I can see this is going to be a long process I may do it via USB until I get a Wireless G WAP. Thanks.

In the case of the PS3, and depending which firmware the PS3 came up with, the "firmware updates" can add a lot of functionalities, with recently per exemple the support of DTS HD MA.

So we are not just talking "bug fix" here hehe
