Can Blu-Ray overcome...Standard DVD?

I have 2 BR players in my house, well..3 if you count the PS3, but I only use it for gaming. I have about 50 BR titles. I LOVE BR! Big fan.
However, watching a Standard DVD on my HDTV LCD, it's really looks good. And that's just on a regular DVD (upconverting)player, not a BR.
Now I can tell the difference, sure!
But for the mass market, maybe upconverted DVD is..."good enough"?
I really hope BR takes off.
I don't think Downloads are near the threat to BR's success as DVDs. Many say, they just don't have a reason to replace their DVD collection.
Even I'm not replacing EVERY DVD, just my favorites, as they become available.
(just got in the Dirty Harry Box set (BR)..Yay!)
