Angry I hate that

Just bought a new hdmi receiver hooked it up and started watching the Orphanage, so far very good movie, at exactly 1 hour and 57 seconds into the film (where the woman is opening her mouth to describe the children in the room) the BD shuts down. It doesn't freeze, it doesn't skip m it shuts down. Now it's from netflix so I could get another one from them , but I hate the fact that I am so into the movie and this crap happens.

what bluray player?

was the BD player the only thing that shut down, or did all your equipment shut off?

This is why people buy Movies for their own personal collections, because those who collect movies, know how to look after their stuff.

You wouldn't find a single mark or scratch on any of my Blu-Ray movies and that's the way it will stay and I would never rent.

Default not the player

I am sure it is the disc, I have never had a problem with my player and everything else seems to work, I believe it is the disc because when I play the disc back it will always shut down exactly 1 hour and 57 seconds in. BTW the screen goes black and I see on the player the time of the movie (1:00:57) for about 10 seconds and then it shuts down.

If I remember correctly, this title at exactly that time stamp had the little "bomb" that everyone with certain HDMI receivers reported happening. There's a thread somewhere about that issue and what players/receivers are involved. It might be that your receiver is shutting down to protect itself.

Default can't be

Tanks for the info, but my receiver stays on and my bd player shuts down. I really enjoyed the movie to that point, and may pick it up at the store today and finish the movie. i will let you guys know if everything works with a brand new disc. BTW some asked about the PQ, the PQ and SQ are great.

Have you tried skipping to just before the movie froze and see if it does the same thing. Make sure you do this at least a couple of hours after your equipment has been turned off. I only say this because many electronics have automatic shutoff when the unit becomes too hot. If it doesn't, your bd player may be defective as it either overheats or the heat sensor is not working properly

I netflix a lot of Blu Ray and I only had that happen once.

Ejected the disc and it looked smudged with popcorn oil fingerprints or something like that and so I wiped it off and then it worked fine.

I think the anti-scratch coating on the Blu Rays works great but seems to capture fingerprints better then older disc types.

Now I inspect all netflix discs before use (many times I get them on release day so they are completely fresh) and if they are dirty I clean with a lens cleaning cloth before use.

Default purchasd my own

I bought my own disc, and it works perfectly fine throughout the film, it was just the netflix one. Anyway very good movie. I'm not a guy for films in another language and reading subtitles throughout the movie, but this movie and Pan's Labyrinth was fantastic.
