Default Question about eCost/Accessories4less, and the Onkyo 605

Hi. I have been meaning to post this for a while, and now that im close to decision making time, i have some questions regarding these 2 sites.

1. Is the 605 at Accessories4less refurbished? It says Onkyo Factory Reconditioned, which im pretty sure is the same thing, but it never hurts to check

2. What about eCost? They dont say anything about the condition of the receiver.

3. Which site would you recommend? eCost costs me around 290 (with shipping), and acc.4less is 270.

4. Is there a tax on any of these sites? I live in the states.

5. Why are their prices so low compared to others like amazon/J&R?

Thank you

1. Yes
2. Probably, but I'm not 100% on it.
3. eCost has some bad reviews with returns. Accessories4less does not. I purchased mine through Accessories4less and I think they're great. When they dropped the price on the 605, I called them and while they didn't have a price match guarantee they did send me a free hdmi cable. Good customer service.
4. No- assuming you don't live in the same state as them.
5. They're refurbished. They're also Onkyo-approved resellers, so there's no worry about them.

Onkyo just dropped the price on the 605 and Accessories4less carried on the savings to the consumer (I talked with them over the phone). Again, personally, my experience with them could not have been better. Good email communication, good email follow-up and good customer service. I'd definitely recommend and use them again.

Ecost will have the item and then REF at the end of it. That means it's refurbished with a one-year warantee from Onkyo.

I just had a bad experience with Accessories4less. 2 days ago,I was trying to take advantage of an ebay discount (30%.) Accessories4less didnt have a 605 or 606 listed in their ebay store at the time. I sent them an email asking them if they had any,and they replied that they did on their website. I replied back advising that I had to do it thru ebay to get the discount. Their response was "check our other auctions." WTF? So instead of them being bothered with listing an item for me that I was ready to buy,I was suppose to go with something different??? Hows that for a customer service motto? "We dont want be bothered with setting up the purchase you want, so buy something else thats convienant for us"

I understand that maybe they were trying to avoid the fees,but they could have added a little to the price,or whatever. Hell,they had 705s listed and all types of other products, they had what I wanted in stock, and do list them on ebay, but they just totally brushed me off thinking I would say that its ok and just jump up to a 705.

Needless to say, if that's an indication of the quality of service they provide, I wont be spending my money there.

But they do use paypal on their site, so if your coupon was for that, it would have applied. They might have a lot of the items they have listed on ebay, or their profit margin may be larger on those items. It's hard to say why they decided not to list that particular item, but I don't think that's a mark against them. Also, I'd recommend calling them- just about any company you'll get better service over the phone than over email.

I had to go thru ebay and paypal to get the discount. I agree that not having the item on ebay is not a mark against them, but I believe their response was. All they had to do was give a simple reply like you just did, instead all they said was "check our other auctions." No sorry we couldnt help, lets try this, or evan thank you,have a nice day.
Maybe they're a great company, but I dont think I even got an attempt at good customer service on my experience. Maybe I just got the wrong person.

woah, thanks for all replies.

however, my brain just recovered from retardation, and i now realize i dont need a fancy receiver, since a have a PS3, and im never gonna get a 7.1 system. (ill move houses before then :P)

Ive been looking at the pioneer VSX-818V-K to fit my needs, and it has some better specs than the 605 (120 watts per channel compared to 90-110). Would you all recommend it, SQ wise? I would LOVE it if i could get a good receiver for 250 or less. This one is 200 at J&R.

Thanks again

Yah, Accessories4Less is partly a sham business (unless you get lucky). I ordered a cable from them that they said was totally new. It looked like it had been run through a garbage disposal. Pins snapped off, cable dented and written on. After a few days and a number of e-mails I get them to let me return ut, but then they refused to compensate me for any shipping charges (there goes $20 on a cable that was $20 in the first place). Then to top it off they refuse to publish my review of the product on their site.

Wow, maybe I got lucky then. I experienced great service but that's definitely not the case there. I will say that I just received that free hdmi cable last night. Only 3ft, but it is a nice cable. Now I have a spare.

I look on ebay today and Accessories4less now has the dam 605 listed!!!
So either one of two things happened:
1) This was only 3 days ago when I asked them,and now they have it listed, so they had to know one was coming up and just didn't care (or want) to tell me.
2) They realized they had crappy service and decided to list one.
either way, I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Grimfate, how much is the receiver. I'll get you some of my recommended receiver recommendations for the price range when you get me the price you're looking at.

The pioneer(VSX-818V-K) is 200 on amazon, and 250 is the average price. However, it says hybrid receiver, so i dont thing its the same O.o

i would like a 5.1 receiver in a 200-250 range. Lower is fine, obviously. I just need 2 optical inputs, no need for hdmi.

Just realized I have a question about getting sound from the TV. I would love it if the sound from my TV (local channels) came from the speakers as well. However, i think there may be a conflict. This is my setup:

PS3 -> TV (hdmi)
PS3 -> receiver (optical)
DVD/VCD player (dad insists ) -> TV (HDMI)
DVD/VCD player -> receiver (optical)
TV -> receiver (optical)

Now, since the TV is outputting its audio to the receiver as well, wil it also give the PS3/DVD's players audio signal as well? If it does, the receiver will be getting 2 audio signals from both the PS3/DVD player, and i dont know how that will work out. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Check this out. I know you said you don't need HDMI, but having HDMI makes things easier results in better sound. It's a better investment in the long run.

I just ordered the 605 from Accessories4less. I got the one for $299 with the free HDMI cable, 3 year extended warranty and free shipping. Paid thru PayPal and 20 minutes later received confirmation that my order was shipping.
Great deal.

however, ive been hearing some problems with the 605 overheating?

if i do buy the 605, i will have around 3-5" open space above it. will it be enough?

It should be enough room, yes. I haven't heard of 605 overheating issues though...
