Default Bitstreaming Dolby Digital & DTS but sending via LPCM HD Audio

I hope this hasn't been asked before, but is it possible to have my PS3 bitstream the lossy codecs (DD and DTS) to my receiver (over HDMI) but have PCM and TrueHD sent as LPCM over the HDMI cables all in one setting (ie, without me going back and forth between setting the PS3 to bitstream over HDMI or PCM over HDMI)?

Wow, that felt like a run on sentence.

sort of.

You can go into the PS3 sound settings and un-check dolby. And set HDMI to Bitstream.

This will force TrueHD to Linear PCM...while keeping it bitstream for Dts.

The only issue would be when playing a standard dvd with dolby digital audio...you might have to change it again.

Anyways, its an easy change (even during movie play)...Press the Triangle button and go to A/V Settings

Thanks!

So the lossless codecs will just be forced sent as pcm then?

What would be going on with a regular dvd that would make this not work?

This isn't entirely for me, but to make it easier for my mom if she decides to play a movie.

well, if you un-check dolby in the PS3 sound settings...when you watch a standard dvd with dolby EX (6.1), it will be decoded and sent as 5.1 Linear PCM (you wouldn't get the extra Dolby EX 6.1 stream)...and your receiver may or may not be able to matrix into 7.1 audio...(what receiver?)

if thats of no concern, then this solution would be perfect for your mom.

My system's only 5.1, so I don't think that'll be a problem. Would downmixing introduces problems?

I mean from a greater than 5.1 mix (6.1 & 7.1). I'm not all up and up on this stuff, so maybe I'm confused.

just un-check 7.1 PCM.

then the PS3 will only output 5.1 and lower.

What receiver are you using?

I'm not exactly sure on the receiver. It came with the HTSF-2000 HTiB.

yes, as long as the Player can decode, you can hear with Multichannel Analog.

His Marantz has HDMI 1.2, so with "the new blu-ray players" which decode in the player, he can get DTS HD MA via MPCM over HDMI. No need to go analog if he chooses not to.

I have a related question that I couldn't find the definitive answer to. In order to hear the core DTS-HD track in PS3, I should select bitstream vice LPCM when using HDMI, correct?

I am new to Blu Ray. How can I bitstream the lossless audio from my Samsung BD-p1500 to my Onyko 605 receiver and still have the video go directly to my LCD?

i dont have your player but according tp the specs it can bitstream the codecs but as usual, its only through hdmi. your players manual can guide you on the settings.
player hdmi to receiver, receiver hdmi to tv.
youll have to go to the settings on the onk if you didnt already and assign the hdmi input to a function button (dvd, tv, etc.)

Its very easy all u have to do is run an hdmi cable from the player to one of the inputs on the onkyo assign the player to whatever input you have connected it to,then run another hdmi cable from the hdmi out (onkyo)direct to your display. Make sure you have set the audio options on the player to audiophille as this is the only one that will send the raw hd bitstreams. This will in turn give you DD+ DTHD DTS HD & DTS HD MA.
