Default HDTV Owners: 20% Won't Watch Non-HD Programming

From IMDb.com

Quote:
- "Twenty percent of owners of high-definition television sets will only watch programs that are broadcast in HDTV, and 45 percent say they watch HDTV programs most of the time, according to a survey by Nielsen Media Research for the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing. The survey also concluded that among those TV viewers who do not own HDTV sets 28 percent expressed interest in buying one; likewise 20 percent said they would be interested in subscribing to a digital cable system. In a separate study, Nielsen found that the average television viewer now spends 127.15 hours a month in front of a TV set -- up 4 percent from a year ago. "Timeshifted" watching now accounts for 5:50 hours of viewing per month, up 56 percent from last year. TV viewers now spend 2:19 hours watching video on the Internet and 3:15 hours watching it on their mobile phones."

... Um, duh? To me, the actual surprising factoid to come out of that survey is that people are apparently watching more TV on their cells versus an actually decent-sized computer and/or laptop screen?

I watch mostly HD, but some of my favorite channels (Cartoon Network, Comedy Central, and some movie channels, aren't in HD around here) It does pain me to watch some of the movies on Comcast's crappy cable service, but I still watch it.

Makes sense though, since the intro of the iPhone with a (relatively) high-res screen. It's also getting easier to find video content for portables.

SD sucks so hard when you get used to HD. Sometimes I have to watch it though, when a sports event I want to see isn't broadcast in HD. That pisses me off too.

My wife watches SD all the time because we don't get any spanish-language channels in HD.

I have to watch all my Cubs games in sd because my cable company doesn't have WGN or Comcast Sportsnet in HD. I also watch a bit of Comedy Central, and ESPNNews, but other than that I mainly stick to HD channels.

There is really only 1 channel that I watch in SD and thats Comedy Central, everything else is HD. The reason why I watch Comedy Central is to fufill my daily fix of Scrubs re-runs.
