PS3 wont reconize any discs

for some odd crazy reason my PS3 stopped reading any discs.. if i put a blu ray disc, dvd, or game into it it will take the disc in however it wont recognize tht its there or play it. anyone have any idea?

ive tried 3 or 4 Bd discs several dvds and several games it wont play them.

Sounds like the Blu-ray drive flaked out on you. Call Sony and get it fixed (is it still under warranty - should be if it's an 80GB no?)

yes its an 80gb... im trying the ps3 restore function and see if that does anything.

could it be that the lens is dusty ?
is your ps3 in a clean place cause the higher the technology the more sensitive it gets. if that is the case I guess you can try to clean the lens. Do they sell lens cleaning discs for the ps3 ?

if the lens is dusty oh well dont those cleaners need the drive to be moving to work properly? thats my main problem is the ps3 will take the disc in however it wont spin it. I contacted best buy where i bought the unit... its 5 days out of warrenty and they said FU basicially you will have to take it to sony we cant help you. i contacted sony and they said 170 bucks or so to fix. sooo guess i go looking for a stand alone unit. back in the day when dvd first came out i bought a sony dvd player only to have it turn into a brick right after the warrenty was out.. I guess i either dont buy sony or if i do buy sony i get the extended warrenty. im looking into gettting an extended warrenty for my Bravia tv just in case. thanks sony!

When my hard drive went out, my system would not load any disc or let me back up, format, or restore anything. It would only load two video icons and I was able to watch those videos, and a few other icons like the PS store and net which I could still access. The icons for most things would have the circulating arrows indicating they were loading. I had access to all the system settings, I just could not back up for format.

I am just putting this out there to say it may not be a lens or laser problem. Maybe something else. You may just have to back up what you can and send your system into Sony. It is free if you are still in your one year warranty period. $150 if you are out of warranty for service.

One thing Sony may have you do if you call them is to reset the system to its default settings under System Settings. It is worth a try and all it really does is set all the options back to default. It does not wipe anything from your drive. My issue was fixed by replacing the hard drive. Cost me $60 for a new 120gb drive and I lost all my saves because I had never backed up before.

that happeed to me but as i imported my ps3 i had no warrenty i had to buy new disc drive when replaced it worked fine

Those Lens cleaning Discs are not good for slot loaders, and really could just do damage.
