Default New Guy Looking For Advice

What's up everybody.... I've been lurking this site for awhile and I've finally decided to sign up. I just bought a Home Theater set up and I was looking for advice. I'm moving into a new apartment next week and I wanted to know if any of you could offer any advice that would help me get the most out of my set up. I won't be setting my system up until next week, so as of now, I only have my XBox 360 hooked up to my plasma. Here's the list of what I'm working with:

Samsung FP-T5844 1080p 58" Plasma
XBox 360 (RGB Components)
Playstation 3 (still in the box)
Polk RM6750 5.1 setup (still in the box)
3 HDMI cables (2-nexxtech $9 each at Circuit city on sale and the other was $4 on Amazon) (still in the box)
Onkyo 606 (still in the box)
Monster Sub woofer interconnect (still in the box)
Phillips Speaker Wire (still in the box)

Any advice on how to get the most out of this set up would be greatly appreciated.

FYI-I'm currently using RGB components for my TV because the XBox uses components and my HD box thru Comcast doesn't have an HDMI slot.

Thanks in advance

nice t.v.

I would say the connections are pretty self explainatory...... just go HDMI from PS3 to receiver, and from receiver to T.V.

Speaker wire from each L/R Center, etc... to the appropriate speaker, and the LFE out on the receiver to the sub with the sub cable, and just turn the subwoofer to "on" on the receiver through the menu options. I don't really think you'll have too much issues, probably best to give it the ol' college try, and if you run into problems just ask (trust me, answers are plentiful, and very quick around here!)

have fun, and congrats on all the new gear.

I would agree w/Beta Man. He knows his stuff!

Take your time in setting up and adjusting your new equipment. You will need a few hours to dial it in to your liking. Plan a Saturday to do just that and spend the day getting everything the way you want it.

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your new set up!

I would do just what was mentioned plus a couple of things.

1. Unpack the PS3 already great stuff there.

2. Take the monster interconnect back and get one from monprice or bluejean cable. Monster is very over priced. There is tons of comments about this but you would be best off with a different cable and get a PS3 game or bluray with the difference.

Thanks for the advice fellas. Trust me, I know Monster is a rip off. I got the interconnect from Amazon for $18. Circuit City and Best Buy had it for a lot more. I used the extra $ to buy Resident Evil Extinction on Blu Ray. I plan on spending next Friday Night until Saturday morning working on everything, so that should be interesting lol!

58"? Your apartment must be huge...and soundproof. Best of luck and enjoy.

Don't say he would be better off with another cable because he won't. He will have the same quality with the monster as opposed to the monoprice or blue jean cable. He will just be out a few dollars. Don't say that those cables are better, just say that they are more expensive.

He would be better because of the money left from the difference. But he mentioned that the cable he got was only $18 so that is a pretty good deal. When I was looking for those for my sub I saw one from monster for almost a hundred bucks. To me that is to much. There I spelled out what I meant.
