My blu-ray setup consists of a 60GB PS3 and my blu-ray PC (the specs for my PC are listed below)
I'm sure you're all aware of the noise that the PS3 puts out, but my PC's just as annoying, if not more when it comes to fan-noise. I do occasionally play intense games on the PC, but the CPU is not overclocked, although the 8800GT card is an overclocked 640 Mhz card, by XFX. My PC chassis is a Coolermaster Mystique 632S (http://www.coolermaster.com/products...bcate=17&id=46) I used an over-sized fan for the CPU cooler (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000UQF4FA), with cooper heat pipes, with an heatsink attached to the fan. Because i used such a big fan assembly, i had to remove the "muffler-like" tube that fits over the side vent of the chassis. The noise coming from my computer is just too loud, when listening to blu-rays! I have always preferred to watch blu's through my PC, because i believe it sounds better than my PS3 (some of you will disagree with me, but that's not the point). Any suggestions on silencing my PC? Smaller fan perhaps? |

![]() ![]() I would start at the CPU assembly first though, some motherboards rev up the fans through the bios at certain temps. Check your settings in the cmos and let me know if your fans are set to rev up at a particular temp. Last edited by prerich; 06-09-2008 at 08:32 PM. |

If it turns out to be the GPU, how would I silence that? One thing about my computer, it's really loud when i power the computer up, but silences down dramatically once the BIOS screen comes up, so the "blow-dryer" noise quiets down after about 2 seconds (not sure which fan/s causes this). Even though the VERY LOUD noise quiets down after 2 seconds, under normal operation, the noise is still too loud. Last edited by rarredoa; 06-09-2008 at 09:54 PM. |

My old XFX was noisy as sin and so far every other stock cooler i have experienced has been. This is where your noise could be coming from but do as prerich mentioned and open the case for a closer listen. I can recommend this http://www.zerotherm.net/eng/product/GX810.asp but it is quite large and will take over a slot next to the GPU. |

Bit late now but yes it did make a hell of a difference - almost silent and it's temperature controlled so it was only noticeable when under heavy load. No idea about sylenx's (never heard of them to be honest).
