Default Noisy Blu-ray PC

My blu-ray setup consists of a 60GB PS3 and my blu-ray PC (the specs for my PC are listed below)

I'm sure you're all aware of the noise that the PS3 puts out, but my PC's just as annoying, if not more when it comes to fan-noise. I do occasionally play intense games on the PC, but the CPU is not overclocked, although the 8800GT card is an overclocked 640 Mhz card, by XFX. My PC chassis is a Coolermaster Mystique 632S (http://www.coolermaster.com/products...bcate=17&id=46)

I used an over-sized fan for the CPU cooler (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000UQF4FA), with cooper heat pipes, with an heatsink attached to the fan. Because i used such a big fan assembly, i had to remove the "muffler-like" tube that fits over the side vent of the chassis.

The noise coming from my computer is just too loud, when listening to blu-rays! I have always preferred to watch blu's through my PC, because i believe it sounds better than my PS3 (some of you will disagree with me, but that's not the point).

Any suggestions on silencing my PC? Smaller fan perhaps?

Believe it or not larger fans are generally more quiet than small ones. I would recommend a new Heat Sink and Fan assembly. I would go with a Zalman - it has a speed regulator that makes the fan almost silent heres a link to it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118005 that should take care of you.

U 'da man Prerich, i was hoping to avoid replacing the heatsink/fan assembly, 'cause it wasn't cheap AND removing it from the motherboard is not most pleasant experience. U think that the other original fans on the chassis might be the culprit or u pretty certain that it's the heatsink fan?

I guess it could be a number of sources making the excessive noise. The heatsink fan was a featured "quiet" component, but then again "quiet" is a relative term with these things!... If it turns out to be the GFX fan, how would u suggest that i silence it?, or at the very least bring the clock down to the stock 600 Mhz?

It would depend on how many fans came with the original case. I replace my case fans with ones that I know run silent . the other poster has pretty good assembly too (I would have gone with his Zalman but its too tall). If you're having noise problems, check your other fans (especially the GPU fan - its small - spins fast and fast speed means more noise). Also don't put too many fans in your machine - just enough to do the job right.
I would start at the CPU assembly first though, some motherboards rev up the fans through the bios at certain temps. Check your settings in the cmos and let me know if your fans are set to rev up at a particular temp.

Are you comfortable removing your GPU cooler? If you are go for this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ENX-_-35226018 be very careful when you mount it and make sure you have some artic silver thermal paste.

Just checked out your box - it's either the gpu (most likely) or your cpu fan (possibly). You have 120mm fans in your box - quiet. More than likely the GPU fan - smallest fan in the box unless you have one on your chipset (they are notorious for being noisy). You can get this thing quiet - not a difficult project at all

I'll have to check the BIOS settings when i get home, but based on you guys' suggestions, the CPU assembly, might have to go. I just hope i still have that side "muffler" for the side vent, by the way my chassis has 2 fans [One 120x120x25mm front fan (Intake), One 120x120x25mm rear fan (Exhaust)]

U guys think liquid cooling would be overkill? Forgive me for asking, but are those silent, i've never used them before?

I am pretty sure there's a small fan on the motherboard, it's an Asus A8R32-MVP Delux Motherboard ATI Xpress 3200 crossfire chipset.

If it turns out to be the GPU, how would I silence that? One thing about my computer, it's really loud when i power the computer up, but silences down dramatically once the BIOS screen comes up, so the "blow-dryer" noise quiets down after about 2 seconds (not sure which fan/s causes this). Even though the VERY LOUD noise quiets down after 2 seconds, under normal operation, the noise is still too loud.

That noise is normal at start up on newer machines. If its the GPU get the gpu fan that I linked to at Newegg. Start your machine with the case cover off and listen - you will find your problem And P.S. water cooling is indeed silent -and expensive. Don't fall for some kit that says it can do water cooling all in one - you need to buy seperates (sounds like audio ) if you're going to watercool.

My old XFX was noisy as sin and so far every other stock cooler i have experienced has been. This is where your noise could be coming from but do as prerich mentioned and open the case for a closer listen. I can recommend this http://www.zerotherm.net/eng/product/GX810.asp but it is quite large and will take over a slot next to the GPU.

Did this make a noticeable difference in noise?... If so how does it compare to sylenx's? If it's better I'll get it...

what you think of this? Looks like it cools both the CPU and 1 GPU, which is all I have for my setup.(http://www.amazon.com/Liquid-Cooling...136488&sr=1-12) I know you advised me against all-in-one, but i'd like to keep the cooling expense under $50... lemme know

Itj's alright...For just the gpu. The ad states VGA/cpu this actually means the GPU. I'm wary of all-in-ones but it's made by coolmaster who puts out decent products.

Bit late now but yes it did make a hell of a difference - almost silent and it's temperature controlled so it was only noticeable when under heavy load. No idea about sylenx's (never heard of them to be honest).
