Default Black-Lights?

I was in the store, picking up light bulbs (because I needed some) and saw some cheap black-lights that are normal sized bulbs...... if I back-light my screen with one or two of these, will it improve my perceived contrast ??? much like the lighting behind plasma/LCD people are using, but with black-light?????

Anyone try this??? I just saw the bulbs, and given conventional wisdom, I thought it might be something someone has tried, or I myself may try....

anyone?????

thanks!

unless i can get that back light to spread evenly on the canvas, i'll pass.

i havent heard anyone using blacklight unless they want an 80's party. :P

kidding aside, i havent heard of it just yet... possibly in the DIYers forums, they might have some there...

I can't answer the question directly, but I certainly wouldn't want to look at black lights for that long. That's gotta be weird on the eyes.

Interesting idea though -- give it a try... they should only be a few dollars a bulb. But I have my doubts on the benefits.

Interesting question. I don't know, but I think I would be worried about it interfereing with your color pallette. You would go from projecting onto a white screen, to projecting onto something that is tinted purple. I imagine that could create some problems, but who knows?

Black lights may be a "cool" novelty and add an extra amount of excitement but I don't think it's worth it. Black lights emit UV rays that are harmful to your eyes especially if you exposed to them for long periods of time.

more for the wall behind the screen, thought it'd enhance what image was "on" the screen through preceived increases in clarity......all speculation of course!!!!! no... I'm not about to try it.... like I said... just a crazy idea/concept I thought of while at the store!!!!!! (I always hated those things....makes you realize how bad you need to clean your place!!!!)

For FP systems, absolutely no light is best (the proverbial "bat cave"). The backlighting thing may be good for flat panels, but any light is anathema to a projector. You could certainly experiment with it and let us know if it helps with the viewing experience, but personally, I'd save your money and skip it.
