Default HD on tv first then bluray?

was just wondering about if the bluray movies or HD movies hit the tv first then disc? i mean ive seen a few movies like pulp ficiton, forest gump and rosemarys baby just to name a few and they look really good for hd. i mean rosemarys baby looks new lol,so detailed as the other two.

ive seen the shinning on HD tv then on bluray and you couldnt really tell the difference, but the bluray is 1080p.

so do these movies hit tv then disc? havnt you seen grindhouse in hd and its not even on bluray yet lol

A HD 1080p source exist first. It's usually on tape and sometimes HDD.

When a TV station wants to broadcast it, they'll make a tape out of that source that can be pre-compressed for 1080i transmission. This version will be in Dolby Digital 5.1.

For BD, the source tape will be used to make 1080p video and lossless (usually) audio.

To really answer your question, it's not about TV first then BD. It's about maximizing the studio's profit. A movie gets theatrical distribution, then gets edited for the airline version, then another version for PPV, before it gets released on BD/DVD.
