Hello all, I am very new to the Home Theater setup and I would need some help with ONKYO HT S 5100.
I bought this system when I was building my basement. I ran a component cable from this receiver to my Projector. Now that the basement is complete I tried hooking the system up. I was able to to hook up a DVD player directly to the projector using the component cable in place but I was unable to do so via my receiver. I also tried the same with my PS2 and no luck. I think the receiver is not designed to convert the signals. If I am giving component input it is asking for component out. Which means I cannot use other media on this receiver. My PS2 gives me AV out which goes into the receiver but nothing comes out as I am running component cable only. Could anyone please confirm if this receiver does not convert or is there something I am doing wrong. Thanks a lot. JK |

Component In= Component Out.
A bit confused about your situation, but that was actually my starter system, so I know it works and its actually working right now in my father's theater room. We ran component cables from cable box output to receivers "CBL/SAT" input. We ran component cables from DVD player output to receivers "DVD" input. Then component cables from output of receiver to input of Optoma projector. You just need to make sure you assign the audio inputs if you're going to use digital coax or optical. That receiver will not "convert" signals as you mentioned. For instance if you use component cables from your PS2 into the receiver and then use s-video from receiver to projector will NOT work. S-Video IN= S-Video OUT HDMI IN = HDMI OUT Component IN = Component OUT Last edited by Footloose301; 09-19-2008 at 12:49 PM. |

Re-read it again. If you're ONLY use Component from Receiver to Projector then YES, you can ONLY use Component Cables to get a picture. You cannot connect your PS2 via composite(A/V) or S-Video, it must be component.
